This activity is producing frequent lightning, along with damaging wind and torrential rainfall. These threats will prevail as it continues to close in on south central Kentucky. Our atmosphere is busting at the seams with moisture, and will take very little to set off new and continued development. The HRRR model below displays simulated radar through this afternoon and evening. This can give you an IDEA of how this particular event may unfold:

1:30 Update: Storms are still working on getting organized to our west, and because shear is so weak, the storms are struggling a bit.

A couple of warnings have been issued with the system thus far, but I don’t know that any reports of damage have come in yet. Moisture and instability are still building across the region, so expect the storms to be strong by the time they get here. We’ll keep you updated on here and on Twitter as this evolves.

2:00 Update: The squall line has gained some intensity in the past 30 minutes, as it has begun to accelerate southeastward.

There are multiple warnings in association with the line now, and it has begun to strengthen a bit. One odd thing is that a break in the line has developed to our northwest, and that wasn’t expected. Nevertheless, we are still expecting the line to be intense as it approaches our region later. We’ll keep you updated!

2:20 Update: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for western Butler country and north western Logan County until 3:00 PM.
