Cruddy Weekend Weather in Store

Real-time BG Radar:

Today: Cloudy, with showers likely before noon, becoming scattered in the afternoon. Cool, with highs around 50ºF. Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with isolated showers. Lows around 37ºF

After one of the more beautiful weeks in several months, we go back to nasty, rainy weather for a couples days. Oh, yeah, and it gets cold.

Don’t worry. Not that cold. Essentially, we have been seeing a cooler atmosphere the past couple days after a front passed through the area overnight on Tuesday. This has left us high and dry (dewpoints are in the upper 20s as I type this). This leaves me with a lot of uncertainty in the way of predicting solid rain for this morning into the afternoon.

However, I think precip will be forced enough to overcome the dry column, and I believe that we will likely be seeing showers as we get the day started.

No matter what, though, the day shouldn’t be a wash out. Light showers may last into the afternoon, but clouds and cool weather will dominate the area. Highs only look to touch 50 during the day.

As we head for the overnight hours, things look to stay mostly cloudy, with lows falling into the upper 30s.

Tomorrow: Cloudy, with a chance of showers in the region. Highs around 46ºF. Sunday night: Gradual clearing, with lows falling to around 29ºF.

Out of all of the days that I have forecasted recently, Sunday is likely going to be one of the toughest forecasts that I have had to put together.

A lot of issues can happen, and a lot can go wrong. First of all, a mid level low and associated lift will be propagating southeastward towards our region on Sunday.

This will increasing forcing by late in the Saturday Overnight period, and early on Sunday morning. In response to this, it is appearing that the models are trying to converge on a potential band of stronger showers that would rotate through our region throughout the day.

This is an interesting forecast, because the atmosphere above the ground is so cold, that we could be seeing some different precip types other than rain. Snow isn’t very likely, but with strong lift coming through the region, and cold atmospheric temps, some graupel does look possible in some of the showers.

Look for highs to only top out in the mid 40s, under mostly cloudy skies. Overnight, look for skies to gradually clear, and temps get cold, falling into the upper 20s.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high of 55ºF. Mon. night: Partly cloudy, with a low of 37ºF.

Monday is when we get back at it in terms of warming up. I am excited.

The cool high pressure that had dominated our weather behind the low pressure system moves to our south, and we look to begin moving into westerly and southwesterly flow by Monday afternoon.

As we all know, southwesterly flow tends to hike temps up higher than the models are painting them. Additionally, the sun angle is getting higher, and it is easier to get warmer on a clear day. So, look for highs to end up in the mid 50s around the region under mostly sunny skies.

Overnight, the southwesterly flow really kicks into high gear, and this will leave temperatures elevated, even though the skies look to be clear to partly cloudy. Thus, look for lows in the upper 30s.
