Rain Returns for Bowling Green

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Wednesday, 3/9- Mostly Cloudy & WARM – High 78˚ / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy; Rain Chance Late – Low 59˚

Good morning, Bowling Green! Whether you are on Spring Break, or pushing through another week at work, the weather has been treating us pretty nicely here in south central Kentucky!

WKU students didn’t have to go far to get that warm weather they’ve been hoping for; Bowling Green has seen above-normal temperatures for the last several days. Yesterday, the airport hit a high of 76°!

These above-normal temperatures will continue to stick around through the forecast period, but not without any consequences.

After some scattered showers this morning, our area should stay dry for the remainder of the day. Clouds look like they’ll be hanging tough, however, due to the abundant moisture in the air.

Temperatures will hit the upper-70s once again, thanks to strong southerly winds. Slight chance for some showers returns late into the overnight hours.

Thursday, 3/10 – Slight Chance of Rain – High 53˚ / Thursday Night – Rain Likely – Low 35˚

This week, we’ve been sitting in the ridge section of an amplitude trough (dip in the jet stream). Because of this, we’ve seen warmer-than-normal temperatures and increased moisture.

Although the trough has been very slow-moving in its attempt to head east, waves of disturbances have trained close to our area. Models have been placing us right on the outskirts of this region, making the precipitation forecast difficult for Bowling Green.

While we may see some showers throughout the day Thursday, the main line of showers (and few storms) will push through after dinner on Thursday, according to the most recent models.

The heaviest rain looks to fall overnight. Timing and organization of this rain has not been consistent, so we will continue to keep you updated as models become more agreeable. For now, keep that umbrella handy!

Friday, 3/12- Rain Likely – High 71˚ / Friday Night – Rain Likely – Low 58˚

The latest models are showing a bit of relief on Friday. After the front moves through Thursday night/early Friday morning, high pressure will try to infiltrate the region and keep us a little bit drier for the end of the workweek. Temperatures will hit the low-70s rather than upper-70s on Friday due to this frontal passage.

If we do get a few dry hours of weather on Friday, it will not last long. More disturbances from the south will make their way to Bowling Green, allowing for off-and-on wet weather throughout the weekend.
