Saturday, 3/5- Showers Early – High 60˚ / Tonight – Mostly Clear – Low 32˚
Good morning, Bowling Green! And happy Spring Break to all of the WKU students out there!
If you’re not flying south for the week, don’t fret! Conditions will begin to feel like spring again here in south central Kentucky, with above-normal temperatures expected for the next several days.
Before the major warm-up, we run the chance for some isolated showers early today as a weak front pushes through the area. Increased southerly flow ahead of the frontal passage will drive temperatures into the upper 50s/right around 60°, with the greatest chance for showers ending by noon.
Skies will begin to clear beginning in the afternoon with high pressure quickly pushing in behind the frontal passage. Because of the cooler air and mostly clear skies, temperatures will drop down around freezing overnight.
Sunday, 3/6 – Sunny – High 60˚ / Sunday Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 43˚
Beginning Saturday, a major change in the upper-atmosphere will begin to dominate; an upper-level ridge will build and move eastward, eventually settling over this part of the United States for several days. Upper-level ridges are associated with warm temperatures at the surface, with gradually increasing moisture.
High pressure will keep the area dry and clear Sunday; these pleasant sky conditions, paired with temperatures right around 60° will make for a nice Sunday afternoon!
Winds will pick up and become southerly Sunday evening, causing temperatures to fall only into the mid-40s under mostly cloudy skies.
Monday, 3/7- Partly Sunny – High 69˚ / Monday Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 49˚
By Monday, temperatures will really begin to skyrocket as pressure and temperature gradients at the surface tighten, causing winds to pick up from the south. This southerly flow will allow highs to jump into the upper 60s, but with more clouds sticking around due to increased moisture.
While the first few days of spring break covered in this blog post look primarily pleasant and dry, rain (heavy at times) will be in the forecast for much of next week. More details to come!
