Wednesday Bowling Green Weather Update

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Wednesday, 3/1- Becoming Mostly Sunny – High 44˚ / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy – Low 34˚

Good morning, Bowling Green! I hope everyone was able to stay somewhat dry yesterday, as showers and storms pushed through the region for the first day of March. Although we were under a slight risk of severe weather, we were fortunate to not receive any — even though the rain was heavy at times, and the winds were strong.

The rain that fell yesterday was associated with a strong cold front draped from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. As this front pushes further east off the Atlantic coast, high pressure will continue to build in behind, bringing cooler and drier air to Bowling Green.

This will cause temperatures today to be about 20° below the high from yesterday, and about 10° below the average for this time of year. Although today will be cool in comparison to the past few days, clouds will be clearing and conditions should be pleasant!

Clouds will build back in late today, ahead of the next weather system heading our way. Temperatures overnight will drop into the low to mid-30s.

Thursday, 3/3 – Rain Likely – High 53˚ / Thursday Night – Rain/Snow Mix Possible – Low 35˚

By Thursday we’re back on the weather rollercoaster, with precipitation chances in sight. A dual low pressure system will be making its way across the deep south before consolidating off the coast of Cape Hatteras.

Southerly winds ahead of the pressure center will allow for warm air advection, with increasing temperatures and moisture levels causing rain on and off for much of the day.

This system is not nearly as strong or organized as what we saw yesterday, so severe weather is not an issue. Thursday may feel overall blah, however, as the frontal passage will increase temperatures just to see them drop again.

As winds change, temperatures drop, and this system moves out of our region, it is possible that we may see some light snow mixing in with rain overnight. Nothing to write home about, interesting to point out for the first week of Meteorological Spring.

Friday, 3/4- Mostly Sunny – High 47˚ / Friday Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 35˚

Friday – the last day of school for WKU students before spring break – will be similar to Wednesday, just off by a few degrees. After the frontal passage Thursday, drier and cooler air will infiltrate the region and allow for a clear, pleasant day to wrap up the workweek.

The spread in temperatures between Thursday and Friday won’t be as drastic as earlier in the week because of the much weaker/less organized system that brought the precipitation Thursday.

And then it’s off to —- SPRING BREAK
