Today 12/21 – Scattered Showers – High 58º / Tonight – Scattered Showers – Low 55º
A shortwave trough will be moving through the area throughout the day today. This will bring widespread showers and clouds to the region. However, temperatures will remain relatively mild. This will be downright chilly compared to the 82º forecast high in Miami as the Hilltoppers take on Bulls. Go Tops!
Back to the forecast, southerly winds will help keep temperatures mild, in and around 58º. This makes for great temperatures, but kind of a cold rain. Windy conditions around 15-20 mph won’t help this cause much either.
Scattered showers will continue into the overnight hours. Lows will be around 55º.
Tuesday 12/22 – Isolated AM Showers; PM Clouds – High 65º / Tues Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 59º
The surface trough will exit the region on Tuesday morning. Showers may linger, but high pressure will bring dry air into the region. These showers and cloud cover may diminish in the morning hours, however those clouds will likely thicken back up some in the afternoon hours.
Southerly winds ahead of a low pressure system will bring temperatures even higher. Winds will only be on the order of 5-10 mph, however any breaks in the clouds could lead to temperatures in and around 65º for afternoon highs.
Mostly cloudy skies will continue overnight, as well as southerly winds. This combination will lead to mild temperatures overnight in the upper 50s.
Wednesday 12/23 – Partly Cloudy; Scattered PM T-Storms – High 71º / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy; Isolated Showers – Low 55º
A long wave trough will begin to enter the region on Monday. This will bring widespread upper level divergence across the area, indicative of lifting. Partly cloudy skies in the morning and early afternoon hours could lead to temperatures in the low 70s.
A strong low level jet, on the order of 60 knots, could develop in the afternoon and evening hours. This will help pump moisture into the region, leading to surface dew points in the low 60s. This will yield marginal instability values. Such values usually can be ignored, however wind shear will be present, leading to the potential formation of thunderstorms, a few of which may be strong to severe.
It should be noted that this event is still several days out, so a lot can change. However, the last few runs of the GFS model, as well as the NAM model, indicate thunderstorms may contain strong wind and isolated tornadoes. However, this is highly dependent upon the amount of sunshine received in the morning and afternoon hours. Stay tuned.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms may continue overnight. Lows will be around 55º.
