Your Fantasy Football Forecast

The NFL season is quickly approaching, which means that we get to all play fantasy football again! I am actually in a league this year, so my own forecasts will actually help me out. Anyways, many of you love fantasy sports, so this is your weekly guide to what the weather will be like for your teams. A couple weeks ago, I did an overview of the climatology of NFL cities and what to expect going into the season for them. This is the weekly form of that, game by game.

What I will do is give the game, the time and then a bit of commentary on the game itself. The link that is within the game title itself is a link to the nfl.com preview. Then I will give a brief overview of why I made the forecast I did. The gametime forecast will then follow, and I will have scale of 1-10 on the odds that the weather significantly impacts your players (1 being the least and 10 the most).

Denver @ Kansas City; 7:25 PM

First of all, I am kinda mad that Denver played as badly as they did. I have both Peyton Manning and Demarius Thomas on my team.

Even though they had terrible games, I still won last weekend, and I am stoked about it. Anyways, it is looking pretty hot in the Kansas City area Thursday afternoon and evening, as a cold front approaches the region, leading to an increase in temps. As this approaches, however, watch for some thunderstorms. It’s looking like they may move it after the game is over, but that is something to watch

Gametime forecast: Warm, and partly to mostly cloudy. Temps around 87ºF. Thunderstorms approaching later. Weather impact: 5/10 due to possible thunderstorms and heat.

New England @ Buffalo; 12:00 PM

Buffalo and New England will be a match up that I don’t wanna watch. I haven’t heard anything about the Patriots yet this year, and I am already tired of them.

Go Bills. Weatherwise, we are back in the crummy weather town of Buffalo, New York….but this wee is different. Buffalo will break my mindset of thinking they always have bad weather. How is that possible? I mean, they can do it this weekend.

A cold front will move through the region late Saturday night and into Sunday morning, and skies will be clearing as the game kicks off. Temps will be awesome up there, as they’ll be under the influence of a fantastic high pressure system.

Gametime forecast: Fantastic. Clouds clearing out, and highs ending up around 65ºF. Weather impact: 1/10

Tennessee @ Cleveland; 12:00 PM

The universe is back into balance. Cleveland lost, and the rest of the universe won.

I am convinced that if they were to go like 11-5 or something, the world would end. But, who knows. We don’t have enough evidence to even consider that. Weatherwise, Cleveland is gonna be a lot like Buffalo. Warmer temps will prevail until Sunday, and then a nice shot of cold air will come on through, dropping temps for the game.

Gametime forecast: Clouds clearing out, with temps around 65ºF. Weather impact: 2/10

Houston @ Carolina; 12:00 PM

Well, the Panthers won last week, and the Texans lost last week. So, there is my football analysis for this post.

h/t giphy.com
h/t giphy.com

It is looking really hot for the game this weekend, as they’ll still be in the warm sector of the low pressure system that is dragging the front across the US. This’ll make it more difficult for the players to perform well, and could impact your team, depending on who you have.

Gametime forecast: Partly cloudy, with temps in the mid and upper 80s. Weather impact: 5/10 due to heat.

Arizona @ Chicago; 12:00 PM

Every time that I read that a game is in Chicago, I almost automatically assume that the weather is gonna be bad, even if I know it isn’t. That is an awful bias against them, but it’ll eventually break.

This weekend looks faaaaar off from that unfortunate bias, and that bodes well for anyone who has fantasty team interest in this game. Look for skies to be clear, and temps coolish.

Gametime forecast: Mostly sunny, with temps right around 70. Weather impact: 1/10.

San Diego @ Cincinnati; 12:00 PM

If it tells you anything about how much I care about the Bengals, I initially forgot to do this game.

Oh well. Similarly to the rest of the east, Cincinnati will begin to experience some awesome weather by Sunday. Look for clouds to be clearing, with temps feeling pretty awesome.

Gametime forecast: Partly cloudy, with temps in the upper 60s. Weather impact: 1/10

Detroit @ Minnesota; 12:00 PM

DOME. I love domes. This is a continuous trend that you’ll see from me. I always look to see which domes are in there, and check em off as easy forecasts. Unless this happens:

That would be bad. Other than the roof collapsing from snowfall, I think this could be a fairy nice weather game. Because, ya know, it’s inside!

Gametime forecast: AWESOME. No weather here. No weather impact.

Tampa Bay @ New Orleans; 12:00 PM

Two domes in a row. That is an awesome streak, and I think it is one that should keep going. It’s gotta keep going, actually!

Sadly, though, there are only three dome games this week. That kinda makes me sad, because those are the, *Just Fill In The Blank* kinda forecasts. I mean it’s inside! Anything could happen.

Gametime forecast: Climatolgical norms, for being inside. No weather impact for this game.

Atlanta @ NYG; 12:00 PM

Well, this’ll be an interesting forecast. The cold front that I have been discussing throughout the post looks like it will be arriving slowly in the NYC area on Sunday morning. This could keep things interesting across the area.

h/t giphy.com
h/t giphy.com

I wouldn’t expect much in the way of rainfall, but I would look out for some cloud cover, and warmer temps.

Gametime forecast: Partly to mostly cloudy, with temps around 76ºF. Weather impact: 3/10 for a chance of rain.

San Fransisco @ Pittsburgh; 12:00 PM

So many northeast forecasts that I don’t know what to do. It is fairly convenient that 3 NFL teams play within like 4 hours of each other, which makes that forecast easy.

Like Buffalo and Cleveland, clouds will be clearing as the cold front moves through the area during the morning and day before. Temps will be cooler, and this will allow for a pretty nice forecast,

Gametime forecast: Clouds clearing out, with a temp right around 65ºF. Weather impact: 1/10.

St. Louis @ Washington; 12:00 PM

This game will be similar to the one in NYC as the cold front will be oriented similarly in both spots. This will keep temperatures warmer throughout the region, and will keep it nice. However, there is a slight chance of rain in the area, and that is something that I would be watching for if you have players in this game.

Gametime forecast: Mostly cloudy, with temperatures right around 78ºF. Weather impact: 3/10 for a slight chance of rain.

Baltimore @ Oakland; 3:05 PM

I am really hoping that Baltimore kills it this week. I mean, I am hoping that the guy on my team that plays for Oakland has 300 yards, but no TDs. Baltimore is my defense, so I need them to have about 6 INTs, and all of the other stuff. Maybe my expectations are too high.

h/t giphy.com
h/t giphy.com

Yah, they probably are. Anyways, this game is looking pretty toasty. Like, heat toasty. It just looks hot outside for this one, and that could play a pretty big role in the performance of both teams.

Gametime forecast: Mostly sunny, and hot. Temps right around 86ºF. Weather impact: 5/10 due to heat.

Miami @ Jacksonville; 3:05 PM

Ahh, back to Florida. The sunshine state. The place where the Dolphins face the Jaguars on Sunday.

h/t giphy.com
h/t giphy.com

Even though Jacksonville sits on the coast, it is looking really steamy come gametime. That cold front that moved through the northeastern section of the US is likely gonna begin to stall a little bit across the southeast, which means that this game is probably gonna be an inferno.

Gametime forecast: Partly cloudy, with temps in the upper 80s. Weather impact: 5/10 due to heat.

Dallas @ Philadelphia; 3:25 PM

Well, the Philadelphia player that I have got me a lot of points last week, which got me really hype.

h/t giphy.com
h/t giphy.com

Weatherwise, it is looking okay. With that cold front slowing its roll, it’ll probably end up being cloudy and pretty muggy, with isolated showers being possible. However, outside of that, it shouldn’t be too bad.

Gametime forecast: Mostly cloudy, with temps right around 74ºF. Isolated showers possible. Weather impact: 3/10 for showers.

Seattle @ Green Bay; 7:30 PM

THIS GAME IS GONNA BE AWESOME. I don’t care if Seattle lost last week. That makes this even more exciting.

Weatherwise, it should be super nice in Green Bay. The front will be through, and it’ll be so awesome up there. Partly cloudy, cool. Awesome.

Gametime forecast: Partly cloudy, with temps in the lower 60s. Weather impact: 0/10.

NYJ @ Indianapolis; 7:30 PM

I am kinda glad that this is a dome game. It isn’t easy to be super accurate for next Monday night when you are forecasting this on a Wednesday/Thursday timespan.

I can get it done, and I can do it accurately. I know I can. But, it’s just a tougher forecast. Such is life! It’ll be an awesome game no matter what, but with the game being in a controlled, indoor environment, players will have a much easier go of it.

Gametime forecast: The Jets will lose almost immediately. No weather impact.
