The Weather Week In Review: 8/31-9/5

Here at WxOrNotBG, we have begun to implement a new post every Sunday evening previewing the week ahead. In light of that, I am going to begin posting a review of the previous week each Saturday night, highlighting the major events that occurred, etc. So, with that being said, here is your *cue awesome music* WxOrNotBG Week in review for August 31st through September 5th.

This past week was an entire 180 flip of the week before it. It was so, so, so hot.

In what was quite possibly the most annoying weather imaginable, I managed to sweat everyday before I even walked out the door to got to class. It was that hot.

I really feel like that really was an issue for everyone. There was one day that featured a little relief in the form of some isolated rain showers, but other than that, relief was very few and far between.

Temps throughout the week were unseasonably above average, reaching the upper 80s and lower 90s across most of the state. Some of us even saw temperatures reach the mid and upper 90s by labor day weekend! August hit 90ºF only five times the entire month, and has already eclipsed that this month, as have Louisville and Lexington.

Much to your surprise, little happened the rest of the week across the state. Other than the isolated severe storm, the weather was pretty boring last week.

In the tropics, however, things were fascinating. Hurricane Fred formed over the faaaaaaaaar eastern Atlantic ocean last week, and was basically a tropical cyclone as soon as it left the African coastline. This led to Fred being one of the furthest east storms to form on record, and it was one of the only hurricanes to ever impact the Cape Verde Islands!

It wasn’t the greatest looking storm ever, but it was still pretty awesome. And, in the pacific ocean, Jimena has been alive and going for nearly forever.
