Today, 6/17 – Partly Sunny; Sct’d Storms – High 92˚ / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy; Iso’d Storms – Low 73˚
Good morning, Bowling Green! I’m sure by this time you’re hoping I’ll say something different than what those of us here at Wx Or Not BG have forecasted the last 12423839439 days… I am sorry to inform you that is not the case.
Hot. Humid. Storms.
The summer-like pattern continues during our forecast period due to a ridge of high pressure and associated “Ring of Fire”. We’re basically on the outskirts of this ring, allowing for afternoon convection and resulting thunderstorms to rotate through our area. However, the heaviest rainfall has been situated more to our north, where the pattern is concentrated.
Today, temperatures look like they’ll hit the low 90s here in south central Kentucky with dew points in the 70s… again. If you don’t exactly understand dew points, just realize anything in the mid-60s is humid… 70s is just plain gross. Sweaty, frizzy, etc.
Scattered storms look as though they’ll start popping up late this morning and continue into the afternoon. We may see a lull in the rain with dry periods this evening and overnight, but isolated showers and storms are still possible.
Thursday, 6/18 – Hot & Humid; Iso’d PM Storms – High 93˚ / Thursday Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 71˚
Thursday will be much of the same – which I bet you could’ve guessed. Temperatures will be hot, dew points will be high, and instability should allow for more isolated showers and storms over our area in the afternoon/evening.
We’re only in the “marginal” risk for severe weather today and Thursday, with the greater chances to our north, around the Ohio River. These areas could see heavy downpours and gusty winds as a result of these storms.
These rain chances should die down overnight, with temperatures “dropping” into the lower 70s.
Friday, 6/19 – Partly Sunny; Showers & Storms – High 88˚ / Friday Night – Inc Chance for Storms – Low 72˚
The remnants of Tropical Storm Bill should be making their way into our area Friday and Saturday. Copious amounts of moisture will be streaming into Kentucky, with storm chances increasing late Friday. We will continue to track this storm system, but heavy downpours and gusty winds are possible as we head into the weekend. Temperatures may not be quite as hot Friday, but highs will still make it into the upper 80s.
Below is the Quantitative Precipitation Forecast for the next 3 days. Areas around us will be seeing the bulk of the rain, however, we will still be getting our fair share. This map is a good visualization of the impact Tropical Storm Bill and its remnants are making not only on Texas, but several other states as well.
