Subtropical Storm Ana Forms

Last night, the National Hurricane Center initiated advisories on the first named storm of the Atlantic Tropical season, which typically begins on June first. This system formed from an elongated area of low pressure that gradually gained subtropical characteristics, and a closed surface low.

The NHC forecast has the storm making landfall near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina by 8 am Sunday with 50 mph sustained winds. Hopefully Myrtle Beach is still there in about a week because I am supposed to be there next weekend! Despite Ana not being a fully tropical cyclone, the satellite views are still quite awesome.
