Good Friday morning, Bowling Green! Today is the last day of classes for students here at WKU, which has been a long time coming after what has been a crazy past few months weather-wise. Speaking of the weather, it has definitely been playing the summer card – bringing us unseasonably warm weather before the time at the pool has even officially begun.
To wrap up what has been a monotonous stretch of weather to forecast, today will continue the streak of warmer-than-average temperatures thanks to upper-level ridging in the atmosphere. Mostly sunny skies and southerly winds will bring temperatures about 10 degrees warmer than normal to the area once again today. Pool day, anyone?
Tonight, temperatures will remain in the low to mid-60s as clouds increase. A chance of rain is possible for Bowling Green later today into tonight, but the models currently have us staying dry and the precipitation remains off to our west and north.
Saturday, 5/9 – Sct’d Showers & Storms – High 85˚ / Saturday Night – Iso’d Storms – Low 66˚
A change in what has become the “norm” this week is in store for this weekend. The pattern that has been dominating the upper atmosphere will finally begin to move eastward, allowing a system from the west to make its way towards our area. The result? Mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers and thunderstorms Saturday afternoon. A little change might be nice, huh?
The past week has been nice in that it has given us a taste of summer without the humidity we normally experience during the summer months. However, these conditions will come to an end this weekend. With the onset of rain chances returning, higher dew points will be in place, causing the air to feel muggier than it has been recently.
Muggy… get it?
Isolated showers will continue into the evening, but the chances for precipitation will decrease overnight. Temperatures will remain quite mild moving into the overnight hours, with lows in the mid to upper 60s.
Sunday, 5/10 – Sct’d Showers & Storms – High 87˚ / Sunday Night – Chance of Showers & Storms – Low 66˚
With the aforementioned system moving closer to the area, atmospheric lift and precipitation chances will continue Sunday. In fact, Sunday will be very similar to Saturday. Temperatures may be a few degrees above Saturday’s high, with partly sunny skies and scattered showers and storms possible throughout the day and into the overnight hours.
The start of finals week will bring more organized and widespread chances of rain as a low pressure system and associated cold front move through Monday night. This system will work to bring temperatures back down to seasonal normals for the remainder of the week.
