A warm front is expected to make its way from near the Gulf of Mexico into the Tennessee Valley today. As this warm front lifts north, expect breezy southerly winds of around 10-15 mph this afternoon. These southerly winds will help temperatures climb into the middle to upper 60s this afternoon.

Unfortunately, the warm front will also provide enough lift to help produce scattered rain showers today and tonight. Isolated showers this morning will give way to an increased coverage of showers this afternoon.

Scattered showers will continue overnight with temperatures holding steady in the 60s. Total rainfall amounts from today and tonight will be around 0.5″

Tuesday 4/7 – AM Showers; Mostly Cloudy; Breezy – High 77° / Tue Night – Partly Cloudy; Iso’d Showers – Low 64°

Expect another wet start to the day on Tuesday as the warm front continues to lift north and southerly winds continue to help pull moisture into the region. A few rumbles of thunder will be possible in the heaviest showers. Fortunately, rain showers should decrease in coverage by tomorrow afternoon as the best forcing along the warm front will move to our north. Up to 0.25″ of rainfall is possible tomorrow before showers come to an end.

We will see a brief break in the rainfall during the evening and overnight on Tuesday as the warm front will be positioned to the north. Despite drier conditions, pesky clouds will stick around overnight with low temperatures dipping into the middle 60s. A stray rain shower cannot be ruled out overnight.

Wednesday 4/7 – Sct’d Thunderstorms; Mostly Cloudy – High 77° / Wed Night – Sct’d Showers & Thunderstorms – Low 64°

We won’t catch much of a break from the rainy pattern on Wednesday as another area of low pressure is expected to form in Colorado and move into eastern Kansas by Wednesday night. Ahead of this low, expect southerly flow across Kentucky with scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and overnight.

High temperatures will reach the upper 70s during the day and lows will fall into the lower to middle 60s. Another quarter inch of rainfall is expected on Wednesday with locally heavier amounts possible in areas that see thunderstorms. Overall, total rainfall amounts from this morning through Wednesday should range from 0.5-1″ across southern Kentucky.

Unfortunately, more rain chances are in the forecast for Thursday and Friday, but the weekend does look to shape up nicely. It is worth noting that ingredients look available for potential severe weather both Thursday and Friday. We won’t dive into any details just yet, however, keep in mind that inclement weather may be on the agenda later this week.
