Monday Morning Weather Update

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today 2/2 – AM Flurries; Blustery; Mostly Cloudy – High 31º / Tonight – Mostly Clear – Low 23º

6am 28º – 9am 29º – 12pm 30º – 3pm 31º – 6pm 28º

Precipitation is coming to an end across southern Kentucky this morning, as a surface cold front responsible for last night’s rain continues to move east. Behind the front, flying flurries will be possible, as temperatures remain below freezing.  A few of us may even get a sparse coating of the white stuff.  Travel issues are not anticipated, outside of fighting the wind and a stray slick spot or two.

Clouds will be slow to clear today, which will result in temperatures not rising much. We’ll struggle to reach the freezing mark. To make matters worse, northwesterly surface winds of 10-15mph with gusts to 25-35 mph will make it feel even colder, with wind chill values in the upper teens/20s. What a way to start the work week, eh?

Skies will become mostly clear overnight as surface high pressure will be centered near Memphis, TN. Low temperatures will fall into the lower 20s tonight.

Tuesday 2/3 – Mostly Sunny – High 44º / Tues Night – Mostly Clear – Low 30º

High pressure will continue to be responsible for keeping our region dry tomorrow. Skies are expected to be mostly clear with warmer temperatures as surface winds turn southerly.

Calm weather will continue Tuesday night as low temperatures bottom out around 30° under mostly clear skies.

Wednesday 2/4 – Partly Cloudy – High 50º / Wed Night – Sct’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low 25º

The forecast looks more interesting come Wednesday, as a surface cold front looks to slide southeast out of the northern Plains into Kentucky. Ahead of the front, it will be a fairly beautiful day with high temperatures making a run at 50º thanks to warm air advection.

Cloud cover will gradually build throughout the afternoon and we can expect scattered precipitation to track into Kentucky by Wednesday evening. Precipitation amounts should be very light, with the potential for rain showers to transition to snow around midnight, as temperatures drop below freezing. At this time, snow accumulations look minor, with anywhere from a dusting to 1/2″ not out of the question.
