Snow chances decreasing

Real-time BG radar:

This afternoon: Mostly cloudy, and a high of 46ºF. Tonight: Cloudy. Low of 33ºF.

Well, this is a familiar sight. Clouds have become an all too common reality around here as of late, but I mean you have to deal with it when you are stuck in zonal flow.

This will begin to change during the overnight hours (more on that in a little bit), but before that the weather just looks really cruddy around the region. Temps will be stuck in the low to mid 40s across southern KY, and we will be firmly entrenched within the clouds. This looks to continue into the overnight hours as even more clouds stream in ahead of a low pressure center developing to our southwest. Lows will bottom out around 33.

Friday: Disappointment, with rain in the afternoon. High of 36ºF. Friday night: Heartbreak. Rain/snow mix, ending late. Low of 29ºF.

Oh man. Looking at my Anatomy Of A Winter Storm post from last week, its right on with this. Once again, it looks as if the 3 H’s will win out.

Let me just say: there is still a slight chance that we see snowfall out of this. While temperatures look marginal, if precip is as heavy as the 12z Hi-Res NAM is painting across the region, then we could see temperatures drop from 37 to 33 or 34 quickly as the temps fall to dewpoints temperatures.

However, I don’t necessarily buy it. First of all, the air ahead of this is going to be a bit dry, and temps may actually be too high to drop enough to have a significant impact. Additionally, forcing in the mid levels of the atmosphere has really taken a fall in the latest model runs, and this hurts the rates that we can get precip to fall. I have been a Debbie Downer in this since Tuesday night, and it looks like I will win out. Still, though. I will be sad.

Before the rain starts, it looks like we get into the upper 30s, and only drop into the upper 20s that night under cloudy skies. Precip will be primarily rain, until it changes over on the back side of the system.

Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a high of 45ºF. Sat. night: Mostly clear, with some patchy fog. Low of 30ºF.

After some craziness the past few days, it looks like things will cool of on Saturday. I feel like the meteorological world has been in continuous jubilation until this morning, and it will be nice to have a break from craziness.

Skies look to be blue, and the sun yellow. You will actually see the sun today, as skies will be partly cloudy across the region. Highs look to top out in the mid to upper 40s. Overnight, it looks as if skies will clear out pretty well, and with the moisture left behind across the region from Friday’s rainfall, it looks like some patchy fog may develop overnight. Watch for slick spots as temps fall into the low 30s.

Well, thats all I have today. Make sure to have a box of tissues on hand tomorrow as you watch the snow threat dwindle into the sunset with all other events that the 3 H’s have taken from us.
