Rain Showers Return to Bowling Green Weather

Real-time BG radar:

Today 1/11 – Mostly Cloudy; Iso’d Showers Late – High 42º / Tonight – Sct’d Showers – Low 36º

6am 30º – 9am 32º – 12pm 38º – 3pm 42º – 6pm 39º

Good morning, we are off to a warmer start today as temperatures are already close to the freezing mark. Temperatures will make their way into the lower 40s by this afternoon as warm air advection occurs over the region ahead of a developing cold front to our northwest.

Skies will begin the day mostly cloudy and clouds will increase this afternoon ahead of the cold front. Precipitation will also begin to increase ahead of the front in the form of rain showers and we could start to see a few isolated showers around southern Kentucky later this afternoon.

Our best chance for rain looks to be tonight when a few rounds of rain showers are expected to impact the area. Low temperatures will only drop into the middle 30s so we will not have to worry about any frozen precipitation, but showers could lead to 0.25-0.5″ of rainfall in southern Kentucky overnight.

Monday 1/12 – Sct’d Showers – High 41º / Mon Night – Iso’d Showers Ending Early; Cloudy – Low 28º

By daybreak tomorrow, a cold front is expected to be positioned over Kentucky. This front will move off to the east on Monday and shower activity will gradually decline as the front moves east. The best chance for rain will be tomorrow morning, with shower activity becoming isolated during the afternoon. Additional rainfall amounts of up to a quarter inch are possible tomorrow.

Surface winds will turn to the north behind the front by tomorrow afternoon. High temperatures should reach the lower 40s before colder air moves in tomorrow night. As precipitation comes to an end tomorrow, an isolated snow shower before midnight is not out of the question as cold air is expected to catch up to the back edge of the precipitation although no accumulations are expected. Any precipitation will have moved off to the east by midnight tomorrow night and low temperatures will drop into the upper 20s under cloudy skies.

Tuesday 1/13 – Mostly Cloudy – High 35º / Tue Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 26º

Drier weather will return on Tuesday thanks to more zonal flow aloft and surface high pressure settling to our northwest. High temperatures will reach the middle 30s on Tuesday underneath mostly cloudy skies. At least temperatures will be above freezing…

Expect mostly cloudy skies to continue overnight with low temperatures dipping into the middle 20s. The good news is that drier weather is expected for the remainder of the week with a warming trend on tap through the weekend.
