Calm Bowling Green Weather

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Sunny; Breezy – High 25° / Tonight – Clear; Cold – Low 11°

3 PM 25° – 6 PM 21° – 9 PM 17° – Midnight 14° – 3 AM 12° – 6 AM 11°

Temperatures have once again risen above what modeling had suggested it would. Thus, it seems reasonable to bump up those afternoon highs to around 29°. I wouldn’t get too used to the “warm” weather yet though. A reinforcing shot of cold air is set to arrive tonight. I’m just going to stay inside now…

Before we get to that though, conditions should remain sunny for the remainder of the day as all the clouds in the region has departed as of this writing. If you look at satellite imagery, the sky is clear enough to make out the snow to the north of the region.

Windy conditions will remain likely over the region throughout the remainder of the day as winds will be sustained between 5 to 15 mph with gusts as high as 25 mph possible.

Temperatures drop pretty dramatically tonight under the influence of a light north to northwest wind. The clear skies will also contribute to low temperatures dropping to around 11° tonight. The wind will eventually die down to around 5 mph after midnight.

Saturday 1/10 – Mostly Clear; Calm – High 28° / Sat Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 24°

High pressure will settle into the region on Saturday. This will keep the cold air locked in place. It will also keep the calm weather locked in place. Conditions should remain mostly clear throughout the day with light winds. The high will be around 28°.

Saturday night may bring an increase to cloudiness across the region. A shortwave trough will move just to the west of the region which will help produce some clouds. A few sprinkles may also be possible late on Saturday night as more moisture moves into the region from the south. Lows will be around 24°.

Sunday 1/11 – Mostly Cloudy; Showers Likely – High 40° / Sun Night – Showers Likely – Low 35°

The aforementioned shortwave trough will move into the region on Sunday. Divergence aloft will aid in the development of widespread precipitation. It looks like the dominant mode of precipitation will just be some cold rain showers. However, places to the north and west may experience some freezing rain and sleet before all is said and done. Below is a depiction of the shortwave trough.

But, I’m expecting just a cold rain for Bowling Green at this time. Showers look to be likely throughout the day with highs reaching the 40° mark under the influence of southerly winds. Sunday may be the first time we get above freezing since Tuesday afternoon.

Showers will continue into the overnight hours on Sunday. Lows will likely drop into the mid 30s. Wind out of the south around 5 to 10 mph will continue into the overnight. Precipitation is expected to amount to 0.25″ to perhaps half an inch in some locations.

The precipitation looks to come to an end on Monday night. There’s a chance a few snowflakes will mix in with the rain as it ends, but this shouldn’t amount to much. However, stay tuned in case that changes!
