Go ahead and buckle up, the weather roller-coaster ride will be in full force over the next 24-48 hours. Plenty of cloud cover has been the case for our Friday along with a few scattered showers that worked across Bowling Green. Highs this afternoon have remained on the chilly side with readings only climbing into the lower 40’s.

Our attention will turn towards a developing low pressure across Texas that will organize along with its associated warm front set to impact the region tonight. Low temperatures will actually occur early on as readings briefly drop into the upper 30’s. Once this happens, temperatures will begin rising through the overnight period as the aforementioned warm front rises northward.

This boundary will usher in plenty of warmth and moisture along with increasing rain showers from south to north. This will start the beginning of what appears to be a windy and soggy Saturday.

 

 

Sat – Mostly Cloudy; Breezy, Rain Likely – High 63º / Sat Night – Cloudy; Breezy, Heavy Rain Likely – Low 46º

The start to the first weekend of 2015 will be a wild one weather-wise. As previously mentioned, a strong low pressure system will work northward along the Mississippi River while pushing a warm front into Kentucky. By Saturday afternoon, the entire region will become engulfed within this boundary allowing temperatures to soar into the lower 60’s for Bowling Green weather.

Strong southerly winds are expected to crank up during this time with sustained winds around 10-20 mph. Gust up to 35, even 40 mph tomorrow afternoon/early evening will certainly be possible for southern Kentucky. With these winds, expect plenty of Gulf moisture push northward as precipitable water values rise near 1.5”.

While periods of rain will be ongoing for Saturday, expect the heaviest rainfall to arrive during the late afternoon/early evening time-frame. As pictured above, the highest moisture content will nose in around 6pm. As the systems cold front tracks eastward into southern Kentucky around this time, plenty of heavy rain will be anticipated.

By late Saturday night, the bulk of the precipitation will push eastward and clear the area. The cold front will traverse through as much cooler air filters in from the northwest. Overnight lows will drop into the mid 40’s by early Sunday morning.

 

 

Sun – Mostly Cloudy, Few Rain/Snow Showers – High 45º / Sun Night – Partly Cloudy; Cold – Low 25º

The upper level trough axis will finally slide through the region Sunday. A few scattered rain/snow showers will be possible but nothing substantial. Overall, Sunday will be a pretty raw day as temperatures only climb into the mid 40’s. Rainfall totals for this event will range from 1-2” across south-central Kentucky.

Mostly cloudy skies will linger through Sunday night before breaking up early Monday morning. Dry and cold conditions will prevail as overnight lows dip into the mid 20’s.
