Soggy Bowling Green Weather Ahead

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Mostly Cloudy; Chilly – High 41º/ Tonight – Mostly Cloudy; Light Wintry Mix — Low 32º

3pm 41º – 6pm 36º – 9pm 35º – 12am 34º – 3am 34º – 6am 32º

We’ve kicked off the New Year on a fairly quiet this note this afternoon with chilly temperatures in the lower 40’s. Despite the cloudy skies today, southerly winds around 5-10 mph have helped temperatures reach more seasonable numbers. However, clouds will be on the increase tonight as a weaker disturbance pushes northeastward across the Tennessee Valley.

The latest model guidance hints towards precipitation holding off until early Friday morning. In return, a light wintry mix would be possible for the area as temperatures fall at or just above freezing. Now, precipitation amounts will remain very light in nature with heavier totals slated to our south.

With that said, I foresee precipitation having a hard time overcoming the low level dry air mass in place. Additionally, forcing will remain relatively weak across the area also limiting our chances for any major impacts. Otherwise, a few slick spots will remain a possibility as lows drop right around the freezing mark.

Fri – Mostly Cloudy; Rain/Sleet Mix Early – High 41º / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy; Rain Likely – Low 37º

The early rain/sleet mix will be possible through mid-morning Friday before precipitation dissipates/moves eastward. Mostly cloudy skies will be a good bet for the entire day as southerly winds continue to pump moisture across the region. Highs will jump into the lower 40’s by Friday afternoon while rain chances ramp up into the evening hours.

A strong upper level trough will eject from the southern Plains Friday night as a surface low develops and strengthens across the Gulf States. This low is expected to track northeastward into the Ohio & TN Valley Region’s late Friday night/early Saturday morning while overspreading precipitation across the state. Otherwise, look for rain to break out through the overnight period as temperatures drop into the upper 30’s for lows. If you have any plans, be sure to pack the umbrella to be on the safe side.

Sat – Mostly Cloudy; Breezy & Warm, Rain Likely – High 60º / Sat Night – Mostly Cloudy; Rain Likely – Low 44º

We’ll see a soggy start to our weekend as the aforementioned surface low tracks towards the Commonwealth. The associated warm front will rise northward into the heart of the Bluegrass state Saturday before edging northward into Ohio & Indiana. Breezy southerly winds (around 10-20 mph) will pump plenty more moisture into the area as precipitable water values jump near 1.4”.

Shower activity will continue through the afternoon and evening hours Saturday as Kentucky becomes fully engulfed within the warm sector. During this period, expect temperatures to peak near the 60 degree mark as conditions will feel anything like the first of January.

The strong system will finally push through the region by Sunday morning as a rather raw day awaits Bowling Green. Plenty of cloud cover will stick around as temperatures will be much cooler than Saturday. Highs will only reach the low-mid 40’s Sunday afternoon with a few lingering showers possible on the back edge of this system. Otherwise, look for conditions to dry out as precipitation totals range from 1-2” for Bowling Green Weather.
