Tuesday Afternoon Weather Update

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Mostly Cloudy; Chilly; Stray Rain Shower or Flurry Possible – High 43°/ Tonight – Mostly Cloudy; Cold; Flurries – Low 33°

3pm 42º – 6pm 39º – 9pm 38º – 12am 35º – 3am 34º – 6am 33º

Good afternoon, a chilly afternoon is in progress today as Kentucky is situated in the heart of a cold air mass associated within an upper-level trough. Northwesterly winds have picked up this afternoon as high temperatures will struggle to reach the lower 40s across southern Kentucky.

A weak shortwave disturbance will move through the trough this afternoon and tonight. This shortwave will be responsible for mostly cloudy skies and even a few flurries this afternoon and tonight. No accumulations are expected with these flurries, but a few locations could see some snowflakes.

Wednesday 12/10 – Mostly Cloudy; Chilly – High 41° / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy; Cold – Low 27°

The large upper-level trough will move off to the northeast tomorrow and stall out through the end of this week. Check out how little this trough is expected to move from tomorrow morning until Thursday morning.

This slow progression of the upper-level low will result in similar weather conditions throughout the rest of the week. We will be on the backside of the trough beginning tomorrow meaning there will be drier air in place to limit the chance of any precipitation.

The cold temperatures will unfortunately continue as northwest flow aloft will keep the cooler air locked in place. Expect high temperatures to reach the lower 40s once again tomorrow under mostly cloudy skies. Lows will drop into the upper 20s overnight.

Thursday 12/11 – Partly Cloudy – High 41° / Thur Night – Mostly Clear – Low 28°

The upper-level trough will still be parked to our east on Thursday, but surface high pressure will build into the Ohio Valley and help to push the pesky clouds out of our area.

Temperatures will still be chilly as highs approach the lower 40s, but at least we will see mostly clear skies. The good news is that this calm weather pattern is expected to last into the weekend with temperatures warming into the 50s by Saturday.
