Wet Bowling Green Weather Ahead

Real-Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Mostly Cloudy; Sct’d Showers – High 46º / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy; Sct’d Showers — Low 45º↑

3pm 46º – 6pm 45º – 9pm 47º – 12am 37º – 3am 52º – 6am 56º

Thursday kicked off on a rather soggy note as much of southern Kentucky dealt with a couple rounds of showers. Unfortunately, the shower activity looks to stick around. However, we should see a lull in the activity this afternoon/early evening with a few hit and miss showers remaining possible.

Otherwise, look for another dreary day across Bowling Green as overcast and cool conditions prevail. Highs will struggle to reach the mid 40’s this afternoon while lows tonight only drop a degree or two.

Why’s that you ask? Well, a low pressure system will develop and strengthen to our W (across parts of Texas & Oklahoma) before moving eastward tonight. The associated warm front will lift towards the region while ushering in much warmer and moist air. In return, our lows will occur early on before temperatures rise overnight.

Fri– Mostly Cloudy; Breezy, Rain Likely – High 66º / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy; Breezy, Rain Likely – Low 57º

The end of the work week will feature warm, but wet conditions for southern Kentucky. You’re right; take the good with the bad, eh? Anyways, conditions will be soggy as moderate rainfall totals will be expected. Let’s get into it.

As mentioned above, a low pressure system will develop across parts of Texas and Oklahoma while our region becomes engulfed by a southwest flow. The associated warm front will lift across the Ohio Valley while ushering in much warmer air. As this boundary slides across the state, it will also provide the spark for shower development.

After reviewing some more data, I found that the nocturnal low level jet really ramps up across southern Kentucky Friday night around 9pm. On top of that, precipitable water values rise into the 1.3-14” range while temperatures remain in the upper 50’s, low 60’s during this period. Throw all of that together and you have the right ingredients for a good rainfall.

With that said, I foresee a couple waves of rainfall. First wave of activity will arrive during the morning hours while a second wave (much stronger in terms of heavier precipitation) will work through later Friday afternoon/evening. Models also show some surface based instability (~100 J/kg) and could lead to a few rumbles of thunder as well, so don’t be alarmed.

Overall, I see a very wet Friday ahead for Bowling Green weather as this system traverses through the state. Rain showers will be possible throughout the day with heavier rain slated by Friday night. The system will work northeastward overnight and eventually clear Bowling Green by Saturday late morning.

Sat – Mostly Cloudy; Sct’d AM Showers – High 58º / Sat Night – Mostly Cloudy; Cold – Low 38º

By Saturday late morning, look for any lingering showers to finally push east and clear southern Kentucky. Precipitation forecast show a moderate rainfall event for the state where a total of 1-2” of rain will be possible for Bowling Green weather.

The good news is any lingering showers will quickly clear the area as conditions begin to dry out. Temperatures will warm into the upper 50’s by the afternoon hours under cloudy skies. Lows will be much cooler as temperature bottom out in the mid-upper 30’s.
