The WPC surface forecast for 6 am Saturday morning.

Well, to start of the day Saturday, we will have high pressure sitting far to our southeast over areas like Georgia, and the Carolinas. This will put us in deep southwesterly flow within most of the atmosphere, and thus will act to increase moisture return out ahead of a developing weather system over the northern Plains. Winds will be breezy, up to between 15 and 20 mph at times in the afternoon.

This will increase clouds, and rain chances as the day wears on, and will keep temps lower than they may have been on even a partly cloudy day. Temps will climb from the lower 30s into the low and maybe even mid 50s by the afternoon. Under cloudy and showery skies, this should create the perfect weather day for a lazy day of football and even more leftovers.

WPC forecast for 6 am Sunday.

By Sunday morning, we will have been deeply entrenched within the southwesterly flow for over a day. This will keep temps mild, but because of clouds and a breeze of around 15 mph, it will feel a bit cooler than the temps will actually be. Because of this type of flow, and the slow advancement of a cold front towards us, Sunday should feature scattered showers moving through during the afternoon. It will by no means be a wash out, but it could put a damper on those trying to awaken from a food-coma.

Sunday night is when the cold front begins getting closer. It is looking like moisture will be increasing even more across the region ahead of the cold front that will be pushing into the area. This should increase shower coverage across the area by late Sunday night, and this cloudiness will keep temperatures from dropping very far from Sunday’s high as lows will only end up being in the low 50s.

Monday: Mostly cloudy, with rain. Highs around 52º / Mon. Night: Evening rain (maybe to snow??) showers. Lows around 32º

WPC forecast for 6 am Monday.

Monday will likely be as interesting a weather day as we have had in a while. Temps will be falling throughout the day (into the upper 30s by mid afternoon), and we won’t even really be awake for our daytime high. Our high on Monday is likely to be Sunday night’s low because of this cold front. As it comes into the area, precipitation will likely be on the increase across the area, and thus, umbrellas will likely be a necessity on during the day on Monday. Though precipitation totals don’t look that impressive, it will still make for another crummy day to go back to work and school after the break.

As we head into Monday evening, things look to get really interesting. Because this is such a strong push of cold air, we are looking at a situation that could have a rain to snow, or even a good timespan of snowfall Monday evening. It looks like we will have precipitation still falling across the area, and have enough moisture to last us into the solid temp drop. Temps will have to fall into the low to mid 30s for us to even have a legit shot at this, and I’m not too sure we get cold enough at all layers before the moisture clears out to have snowfall. We will just have to wait and see, as this will be a fun one to watch! This will likely be a headache to meteorologists throughout the state.
