NWS Visits WKU

Earlier this evening, my fellow meteorology majors and I were happy to welcome  members from NWS Louisville and NWS Nashville on campus to give us presentations on various things.

NWS Louisville came out and discussed aviation meteorology, which was lead by meteorologist Brian Schoettmer.  A brief overview of the meteorological side of Sunday night’s winter storm was given by Louisville SOO Ted Funk, and decision support within the NWS offices was discussed by lead forecaster Ron Steven.

Brittney Whitehead, WKU alum and meteorologist with NWS Nashville, gave an overview of the different employment opportunities available for students, and expressed the need to get in early as a volunteer, as the job market is very competitive.  It was a neat event that I personally enjoyed, and look forward to seeing these folks more over the coming years.
