Powerful Storm Hits Southern Europe

Southern Europe has taken a beating this week, as a deep trough and associated low pressure center digs its way across the continent. Rainfall of over two inches has been recorded throughout southern Europe, with higher amounts recorded in the mountains; flooding has become an issue in Italy as a result. Large amounts of snow have accumulated in the Alps, and a tornado even ripped through Sicily. Europe has definitely experienced a mixed bag of weather this week, with dangerous weather advisories in effect for much of the southern part of the continent. While this storm is expected to move out of the area by the weekend, another storm will follow soon thereafter.
