Tuesday Afternoon Weather Update

Good afternoon, a weak surface cold front is currently positioned just northwest of the Ohio River. This cold front is associated with an upper-level trough that is centered just west of the Hudson Bay. A long line of rain showers has formed along the front and will continue pushing east this afternoon.

We are starting to see some cloud cover ahead of this front in southern Kentucky currently. Temperatures are in the middle to upper 60s.

Rain showers will push east into southern Kentucky before midnight tonight. Rain will persist overnight and model guidance suggests rainfall totals will be around 0.25″. Low temperatures will fall into the upper 40s.

Wednesday 11/5 – Rainy – High 57° / Wed Night – Showers Likely – Low 47°

The surface cold front will lose most of its upper-level support tomorrow. As a result, this front will become stationary and keep rain in the forecast for our area. Periods of rain will dump an additional 0.25-0.5″ of precipitation across southern Kentucky. Conditions will be less than ideal tomorrow as high temperatures will only reach the upper 50s tomorrow afternoon. Try and make the best out of a rainy day.

The stationary front will start to push off to the east by tomorrow night as another disturbance rotates through the upper-level trough. The front won’t move very quickly though, rain will hang around through most of the night with cloud cover keeping our low temperatures relatively mild.

Thursday 11/6 – Mostly Cloudy, Stray Shower Possible – High 55° / Thur Night – Mostly Clear – Low 35°

Another surface cold front will approach the region on Thursday as the upper-level trough over the eastern U.S. deepens. We will see mostly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the middle 50s on Thursday. Most of the precipitation associated with the cold front will stay to the northeast of our area, but it is possible we could see a stray shower during the afternoon.

Surface high pressure will start to work in the region behind the front by Thursday night and low temperatures will drop into the middle 30s under mostly clear skies. This chilly air mass will stick around through at the least the beginning of the weekend.
