Weak surface high pressure has taken grip of the region today bringing plenty of sunshine and pleasant Fall temperatures. Highs this afternoon have managed to climb into the lower 60’s.

As we head into the evening hours, our first of the two quick hitting disturbances will work towards the Commonwealth. In return, expect an increase in cloud cover later this afternoon/evening as mostly cloudy skies prevail tonight. Shower chances ramp up late as a bulk of the activity will occur around midnight and later.

The extensive cloud cover will keep conditions a tad warmer when compared to Wednesday night. Temperatures will remain chilly through the overnight period as lows drop into the middle 40’s for Bowling Green weather.

Fri – Mostly Cloudy; Sct’d Showers – High 52º / Fri Night – Mostly Cloudy; Frightful & Cold – Low 32º

The cloudy and cool conditions will persist into our Halloween Friday while highs really struggle to climb the ladder. A cool shot of air from our first disturbance will settle in across the region as highs reach the lower 50’s. The second, stronger upper level disturbance will slide southward through Friday afternoon and night as things get downright frightful.

Here in southern Kentucky, the best chance for a few rain showers will come Friday afternoon/early evening with a second wave later on. This will be something to keep in mind for all those little goblins and witches trick-or-treating.

But wait, it gets evening colder. In behind these showers will be a cold, winter-like shot of air. We’re talking the coldest air we’ve had this season. .Winds will really begin to crank up once the front passes through. Strong northwesterly winds around 10-20 mph will be expected with gust up to 30 mph at times.

Keep in mind here, temperatures will fall drastically through this period. Factor in temperatures in the 40’s by early evening and winds up to 20 mph, wind chill will become a concern. Matter of fact, wind chill values will drop into the mid 30’s by early evening and low to mid-20s overnight! Both the GFS & NAM show good agreement with the cold air mass. Here’s a look at what each are hinting at by early Saturday morning.

Most shower activity will work across central and eastern Kentucky by early Saturday morning. It will be these folks that have the best chance for seeing some of the white stuff (dusting at best). Now, I won’t rule out a stray flake or two here, especially if the colder air rushes in quicker and meets up with some lingering precipitation (it’s a possibility). But I think most of us will stay dry here in southern Kentucky late Friday night/early Saturday morning.

Sat – Mostly Sunny; Cold – High 47º / Sat Night – Clear & Cold; Areas of Frost – Low 28º

This will be our first full taste of winter. Surface high pressure will slowly work into the Ohio Valley bringing mostly sunny skies and cold air. Highs will struggle to reach the upper 40’s.

Listen, I’m just as upset as your are.

By Saturday night, the heat will need to be blasting full force. Clear and calm conditions will allow temperatures to plummet as lows fall into the upper 20’s Allow some extra time if your out and about early Sunday morning. Areas of frost will likely develop overnight.
