Shew…. (Forehead swipe). It’s been another hot and humid day for Bowling Green as highs have reached the upper 80’s, lower 90’s under partly sunny skies. For the remainder of this afternoon and evening, a frontal boundary will continue its southward descent into the Volunteer state. With plenty of low-level moisture, instability and lift (from the front), scattered showers and storms will likely develop across southern Kentucky.

The good news, maybe a storm or two will help cool us down a few degrees. However, some storms could be on the stronger, even severe side with torrential rainfall, gusty winds, and dangerous lightning. Additionally, storm motion will be somewhat slow as flash flooding threats will become a concern with torrential rainfall.

Otherwise, look for storms to wane and diminish tonight with the loss of daytime heating. Partly cloudy skies will hang tough over the region with mild temperatures in the lower 70’s.

Fri – Mostly Sunny; Stray Storm – High 92º / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy; Warm – Low 70º

The upper level ridge we’ve mentioned all week will finally break down and work towards the southeast. Winds will begin to shift from our south as a low pressure system and its associated warm front works northeastward towards the region. Warm, moist air will ride northward from the Gulf of Mexico as another hot and humid day prevails.

While the warm front will remain to our north, this boundary will provide the necessary spark for a few storms across the area. However, I think the bulk of storm activity will remain to our north near parts of Central and Northern Kentucky. With that said, we’ll keep a slight chance for a stray pop-up shower or storm across the forecast area. Otherwise, its Hilltopper football time!

The evening and overnight hours will remain relatively warm. Evening temperatures will drop into the lower 80’s as the muggy feel stays intact. For all the people heading to the season opening WKU Football game, conditions will be just right. Overnight lows will drop right around 70 degrees under partly cloudy skies.

Sat – Partly Sunny; Sct’d Storms – High 88º / Sat Night – Mostly Cloudy, Thunderstorms Likely – Low 71º

As we head into your Labor Day weekend, the weather becomes a bit more unsettled. Several disturbances will ride across the region bringing increased chances for showers and storms starting Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere will be juicy with plenty of moisture and precipitable water values near the 2” mark.

The latest NAM guidance suggest a soggy weekend as several rounds of showers and storms impact Bowling Green’s weather. Temperatures will remain warm and muggy Saturday afternoon with highs in the upper 80’s. More precipitation will likely persist in the evening and overnight hours as temperatures drop into the lower 70’s.
