Bowling Green Weather: The Heat Is On

Real Time Regional Radar:

Today 8/20 – Scat’d Strong Thunderstorms – High 92° / Tonight – Isolated Strong Thunderstorms – Low 72°

Today, another round of thunderstorms is possible in the afternoon hours. This will driven by the heating during the day. You can expect a high around 92°. There will be quite a bit of instability in the atmosphere to work with, so it won’t take long for thunderstorms to become robust. Any thunderstorms that do form will have the potential to produce damaging wind gusts, small hail, heavy rain, and vivid lightning. The SPC has placed Warren & Butler County in a 5% probability of seeing severe winds (≥58mph) and/or hail (≥1″) within 25 miles this afternoon.

Our pattern is changing quite a bit than that which we have become accustomed to. You’ll begin to see the days get hotter and conditions will become a bit unpleasant. That’s just a warning for the next forecast you’re about to read. During the evening you can expect strong storms to continue until about Midnight. A low temperature of 72° is expected.

Thursday 8/21 – Partly Cloudy – High 95° / Thur Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 73°

On Thursday, the heat will be on. A warm front will lift through the region, and trust me, you’ll feel it. While the warm front lifts through the region, a few showers or storms may fire. However, these should remain very isolated in nature. Upper level ridging will also be moving into the region, which will help bring hot temperatures and muggy conditions. Expect a high of 95. Heat indices will be running well above 100. so be careful outside. I suggest staying in front of a fan…just keep your distance.

Thursday night will bring drier conditions to the region so we can expect partly cloudy skies. Our lows will only drop to the low 70s. Some fog will also be possible.

Friday 8/22 – Partly Cloudy; Hot – High 96° / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 74°

Yep, Friday is in sight! It will be dry, so at least you have that going for you. However, it will be quite hot outside. Upper level ridging will dominate the weather. This is the pattern change I briefly mentioned earlier. It looks like our cool summer has finally caught up with us. You can expect a high of 96°. However, with humidity factored in, it will feel like 103°. Again, be cautious while participating in outdoor activities. If you’re a student moving into the dorm, be sure to remain cool and take frequent breaks. Just take breaks…

The upper level ridging will help keep us dry in the overnight hours. Other than that, there’s not much more to talk about. Partly cloudy skies with a low around 74° can be expected.

That should wrap up this post. Be sure to stay alert to changing weather conditions. To keep track of all Bowling Green weather be sure to check out @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX on Twitter.
