Sunday is shaping up to be a wet one, folks. This shortwave trough has worked its way into the Ohio Valley and is setting up everything we’ll need for rain and thunderstorms to develop throughout the day. Have an umbrella handy if you plan on being outside today. Here’s the surface map valid for 1pm:

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase in coverage throughout the day and peak during the afternoon and evening hours, when the most energy is available, courtesy the sun. Depending on mesoscale conditions and timing, some areas may see a strong thunderstorm develop. Keep an eye on the radar and stay weather aware throughout the day.

The SPC Probabilistic Outlook map below identifies areas that they believe have a stray chance of seeing some severe weather:

Summarized; rain and thunderstorms will be likely all throughout the day, best chances in the afternoon and evening. Highs are expected to be in the mid and upper 80s depending on sunshine/timing. Lows to fall into the low 70s with rain and thunderstorms persisting across the region overnight. Any noteworthy changes in weather conditions will be posted.

Monday 8/18 -Showers and T’Storms Possible– High 87° // Monday Night – Isolated Showers– Low 70°

By Monday, we should have seen the majority of the rainfall totals coming to an end as the system continues to push eastward and out of the area. Highs should climb into the mid and upper 80s. Best chances for rain will be early on and should diminish throughout the day. However, it’ll be another day to keep an eye on the radar and be prepared for the wet stuff. Not everyone’s favorite thing to hear right now probably.

Monday and evening at night will, again, carry the threat for an isolated shower as this system departs east, lows should fall to near 70 overnight with patchy fog possible.

Tuesday 8/19 -Partly Cloudy w/ Isolated T’Storms – High 92° // Tuesday Night – Isolated Showers & T’Storms – Low 72°

Despite this shortwave exiting by now, it will be replaced with very warm temperatures and muggy weather. Atmospheric conditions will remain unstable and allow for the threat of isolated thunderstorms to develop in the afternoon and evening. Southwesterly winds will help push highs into the low 90s with partly cloudy skies. Check out NAM suggested surface temperatures, winds, and pressure for 4pm:

Summer-like conditions have returned it seems! Tuesday evening and night will be hit and miss, really, as the atmosphere will be prime to surprise us with a shower or storm at any point. Lows overnight will fall into the low 70s.

Overall, a wet finish to the weekend with the heat returning by Tuesday. Keep an eye on the weather and check back here for updates.
