Flashback: August 2007 Heat Wave

During August of 2007, much of the state baked in a record heat wave. Luckily, August has proved to be mild in southern Kentucky so far. Through the first half of the month, Bowling Green saw seven days in the 90s with our highest temperature of 94° occurring on August 7. Our average high of 88.3° thus far is just below normal.

This is quite the contrast to August 2007, which many of you may remember as a very hot month. Check out the temperatures recorded at the Bowling Green Airport:

Temperatures were at least 90° for 30 days of the month, only August 31 saw a high temperature below 90°. Even worse, there were nine days where the temperature was at least 100°.  For a little perspective, Bowling Green saw a high temperature of 84° today while August 16, 2007 proved to be the hottest day of the month with a high of 106°.

All in all, five daily high temperature records were set in Bowling Green during August, 2007. Additionally, that month is the warmest August on record in Bowling Green. The monthly average high temperature was 98.1°….I’ll take our current weather over that heat any day.
