Sunday Weather Update

Real-time Radar:

Today 7/20– Partly Cloudy/Iso’d Showers– High 82° / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 68°

6am 66º – 9am 70º – 12pm 77º – 3pm 82º – 6pm 78º

The past couple days have been very dreary for Bowling Green with well below average temperatures and drizzling rain to boot. Highs for Saturday and Sunday were both 71 and 72, respectively, here despite model guidance suggesting warmer. However, many areas saw mid 70s as forecast as they lacked the persistent drizzle that took place here.

I think today should be an improvement weather wise as long as this cloud layer breaks up enough to let the sun shine through. A high near 80 is expected with mostly cloudy skies and an isolated shower possible.

Here’s our surface map for 1pm today showing the lingering, weak area of low pressure to our east now:

This evening and tonight look pretty calm, models are indicating that skies should begin to clear up more and have us less wet, if at all. Lows in the upper 60s expected across the region with partly cloudy skies and patchy fog possible.

Monday 7/21– Partly Cloudy– High 88° / Monday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 70°

Monday will be a warm up and be welcome news to my ears, models disagreeing again with high temperatures but upper 80s are the expected range with an isolated value of 90 depending on how cloud cover works out. This weak trough parked over the Ohio Valley is making for a headache for forecasters lately. (For me forecasting BG’s weather for sure, a record low high temp of 72 on Saturday??)

Don’t rule out a very isolated shower Monday afternoon. Monday night looks good with partly cloudy skies and a low around 70.

Tuesday 7/22– Partly Cloudy– High 91° / Tuesday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 73°

The warmth will be back on Tuesday with the southerly wind component back in action. Highs are expected to be in the low 90s with dewpoints near 70 degrees. Heat indices will be in the mid and upper 90 range with a very isolated shower possible. A strong ridge is building out west and turning up the heat for those folks. We will still be dealing with a weak upper level trough however.

Typical summer weather is back and I’m looking forward to the sunshine. Tuesday evening and night look calm with partly cloudy skies and lows in the lower 70s.
