Physicist Brings Up Polar Vortex

Polar Vortex; two words that will make most meteorologists cringe. The term become one of the buzzwords of 2014 as the media has done an excellent job of providing false information about this phenomena and hyping the phrase up so much that ‘polar vortex’ is now a household term. Lately, the situation has been somewhat under control as the media circus surrounding the polar vortex has died down. Until today..

Michio Kaku; a physicist (not meteorologist) from NYU goes on air and decides to make some….interesting comments about the polar vortex causing this big cool down we are seeing. Here are the highlights:

“Meteorologists are worried about Arctic tornado of cold air becoming unstable.”

“A polar vortex is like a tornado of cold air in the North Pole.”

“We’re seeing an instability of the whole arctic region, potentially very dangerous.”

Many meteorologists were not very happy to hear his announcement this morning, as this was one huge step back in the quest to bring an end to the polar vortex buzz.

Take this time to refresh yourself on what the polar vortex really is: an upper atmospheric feature that is always present.
