Monday Afternoon Update

Real-time Radar:

This afternoon – Partly Cloudy; Iso’d T’storms ending early – High 91º / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 73º

3pm 90º – 6pm 87º – 9pm 82º – 12am 79º – 3am 75º – 6am 73°

Good afternoon, the forecast is still on track today with hit or miss thunderstorms now affecting the region. Temperatures are currently nearing 90 degrees with dew points hovering in the lower 70s which is making it feel downright hot today. Remember, it is important to stay hydrated in heat like this, especially if you are working outside.

Boy sprayed with water.

The few stray storms we are seeing across the area will quickly dissipate this evening. Tonight, expect very muggy conditions with a low around 73 under partly cloudy skies

Tuesday 7/1 – Partly Cloudy; Sct’d PM T’storms (A few severe) – High 94º / Tuesday Night – Mostly Cloudy, Isolated Thunderstorms – Low 72º

Tomorrow looks to be even hotter than today with highs approaching the lower to mid 90s. Combine these temperatures with high dew points and heat index values will reach around 100 degrees. Again, if you are going to be outside tomorrow take it slow and drink lots of water.

As temperatures soar into the 90s we will be under partly cloudy skies for most of the day before an approaching cold front to our west helps to fire off some storms. As of right now, it looks like storms will hold off until the late afternoon/evening hours. Expect some clusters of thunderstorms to form to our west and slowly march east across the area.

The SPC has not changed their thinking much with the afternoon update of tomorrow’s convective outlook. We remain in an area of slight (enhanced) risk for severe storms.

There will be ample moisture and instability for storms to work with, but wind shear will be nearly non-existent when storms fire. Due to the lack of shear, this will not be a widespread severe weather event. However, some of the strongest clusters of storms may produce hail and damaging winds. Additionally, any storm that fires tomorrow will produce torrential rainfall and plentiful lightning.

Expect isolated storms to continue after nightfall with a few remaining strong to severe. Any storms around the area after midnight should begin to weaken below severe thresholds as we lose instability. Otherwise, skies will be mostly cloudy with lows in the lower 70s tomorrow night.

Wednesday 7/2 – Partly Cloudy; Iso’d T’storms – High 87° / Wednesday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 63°

Storms will hang around on Wednesday as the front has trouble making much progress. These storms will not be severe, and we will see a decrease in coverage by Wednesday evening. We will start to feel some of the positive effects of the front by Wednesday afternoon with highs staying in the 80s and much less humidity.

By Wednesday night, we should start clearing out as a surface high starts to push in from the west. Under mostly clear, skies lows will drop well into the 60s, maybe even the lower 60s by daybreak on Thursday. If this makes you happy, just wait until later this week. It is looking like weather for the Fourth of July will be perfect with mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower to middle 80s.
