Summer Solstice Saturday

Real-time radar:

Today 6/21 – Mostly Sunny & Iso’d T’storms– High 88º / Tonight – Clear & Calm– Low 71º

6am 71˚ – 9am 81˚ – 12pm 86˚ – 3pm 88˚ – 6pm 85˚ – 9pm 78˚

Good Saturday morning everybody. Today’s weather is looking pretty good if you ask me. We had a disturbance move through yesterday which enhanced thunderstorm development in our area in the late afternoon but has since cleared and a cold front passed over the area. Other than a stray shower or thunderstorm, northwest winds and a more stable atmosphere due to slightly less moisture will keep the weather pretty calm.

Today is the Summer Solstice and our sun angle is at it’s highest; we will have approximately 14 hours and 42 minutes of daylight. Thus, despite the cold front yesterday, it will be quite warm and pleasant today with high 80’s across the region. Enjoy the first day of summer!

Sunday 6/22 –Mostly Sunny, Isolated T’storms – High 91º / Sunday Night – Clear and Calm – Low 70º

Sunday is looking pretty good as well; similar to Saturday but with slightly warmer temperatures as the atmosphere begins to heat back up. Winds will be generally calm but still generally from the north, helping humidity levels a bit. Expect a stray shower here and there with the stalled frontal boundary in the area, but otherwise another nice day.

Here’s a graphic depicting our general weather conditions for Sunday at 7am:

Monday 6/23 –Mostly Sunny, Isolated T’storms – High 92º / Saturday Night – Partly Cloudy; Iso’d T’storms – Low 72º

The start of the work week will come as southerly flow makes it’s return as well. Deeper moisture will begin advecting back into the region and dewpoints will climb back into the 70 degree range by Monday evening. Chances for precipitation will increase a bit with atmospheric instability increasing with the more available moisture. Expect isolated showers and thunderstorms with mostly sunny skies; temperatures around 90 degrees for highs across the region.

Generally speaking, good weather across the forecast period with the slight chance for thunderstorms the main complaint. Tuesday will be the next significant chance as we have a shortwave trough approaching from the west. We’ll worry about that later though.
