New Radar Technology

New radar technology, named SAILS, has been implemented at the Louisville National Weather Service office. This will enable the office to have better precision and accuracy when placing warnings, as well as potentially extending lead time for tornadoes.

The radar will now have the ability to update the lowest scan every 1-2 minutes, rather than the standard 3-5 minutes it takes now. This provides high quality radar imagery at a much faster speed. Needless to say, meteorologists are quite ready for this radar technology to gain ground.
