Sunday Morning Update

Real-time radar:

Today 5/25 – Mostly Cloudy/Afternoon stray shower – High 82° / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy; Stray showers/T-storm’s – Low 63°

6am 61˚ – 9am 70˚ – 12pm 79˚ – 3pm 82˚ – 6pm 80˚ – 9pm 73˚

Good morning everyone. Yesterday turned out to be as fantastic as we thought and I hope everybody had the chance to enjoy it in their own way. If not, you’ll have another chance today as the weather is a very similar setup today, just with a bit more warmth and moisture in the air.

A ridge axis will be positioned west of the Ohio Valley throughout the day today, slowly moving east. Surface high pressure once positioned over the Great Lakes region is slowly moving southeast and is headed for a destination off the coast of the Carolinas by Monday morning. Anticyclonic flow will position Kentucky in area with southerly wind flow by late tonight, this will usher in more Gulf moisture and warmer temperatures throughout the forecast period.

Widespread low 80’s for highs and dewpoints steadily increasing throughout the day into the 60+ degree range is expected. Cloud cover will remain fair but in much more abundance than yesterday with a chance of precipitation in the late afternoon and evening. This comes as a result of increasing moisture availability and surface heating throughout the day. Winds will generally remain calm.

Tonight looks great as well. Winds will continue to shift and should be more southerly with time. Overnight lows will be a bit warmer and will remain in the low 60’s as a result. Lingering, showers and storms, if any, may be a possibility. Hi-Res NAM suggests they will be in the area. But, in a nutshell, today looks great. The only thing to keep an eye on would be the radar in case a stray pop-up shower or thunderstorm makes an appearance. I don’t know about you, but if today turns out to be more sunny and warmer than expected, I’m in the pool.

Monday 5/26 – Mostly Cloudy / Isolated T’storms – High 86° / Monday Night – Mostly Cloudy / Isolated T’storms  – Low 66°

Monday will pick up where Sunday left off. Continued southerly flow will promote further warming and moisture increases throughout the day and will feel more like a typical summer day in the south. Highs will be in the mid 80’s across the region with dewpoints climbing into the upper 60’s. Skies will remain cluttered with clouds and winds will generally be in the 5-10mph range.

Precipitation chances are a tick higher than Sunday with more moisture and heat available to our atmosphere. Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will be a possibility throughout the day with a weak stationary boundary trying to develop to our southwest. Not a huge deal, but keep an eye on the radar.

Here’s a look at the surface map provided by the Weather Prediction Center:

Generally speaking, another great day across the region. We are getting into some warmer weather which, for a lot of us, is a welcomed situation.  Most of the available jet stream dynamics is remaining to our north and the trough over the southwest seems to be breaking down over time as suggested by model guidance. The Storm Prediction Center doesn’t see much of a chance of severe weather near our area for at least the next few days, which is a positive note to end on.
