Windy & Warm

Today 4/13 – Partly Cloudy & Windy – High 83˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Showers & Storms– Low 63˚

9am 69˚ – 12pm 79˚ – 3pm 83˚ – 6pm 78˚ – 9pm 71˚

After an exceptional Saturday, today looks pretty good as well. With that said, we’ll see quite a few clouds around thanks to our next storm system which is approaching from the west. At times there may even be more clouds than sun, but the nice temps should compensate.

Temperatures are expected to again warm up nicely with low 80s expected for highs. Another great day to spend some time outdoors. If that doesn’t blow you away, today’s windy conditions will. Winds are expected to be out of the south at 15-30 mph with gusts of up to 35 mph+ possible.

By this evening, clouds will increase and thicken as a low pressure and cold front approach. Increasing rain chances will follow, with the best chance of scattered showers and storms occurring generally after midnight. Any thunderstorms are not expected to become severe, however, gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning all remain possible.

Mon – Scat’d Showers & Storms – High 69˚ / Mon Night – Scat’d Showers – Low 35˚

It’s gonna be a rainy Monday… you’ve just got to make the best of it.

Be sure to lay out the rain jacket, the umbrella and rain boots for tomorrow because by Monday morning, scattered showers and storms will be widespread across the area.  Again, nothing severe is expected through the day, however, some of the strongest storms could bring some gusty winds along with heavy rain and lightning.

The cold front isn’t expected to pass through until Monday evening. With that said, you can expect scattered showers & storms until at least then. We won’t see continuous rain all day Monday, but our chances remain fairly high at any point during the day.

Here’s a look at how the NAM model expects the system to play out:

NAM valid from 7pm Sunday – 7am Tuesday in 3 hour increments.

In the end, it looks like we could see anywhere from 0.5″-1″ of rain by Tuesday morning. Certainly, a few locations could see 1″+.

WPC’s total expected rainfall through Tuesday morning.

When the front does pass through, it will certainly not go unnoticed. Much colder air will work into south-central Kentucky very quickly behind the frontal passage. By Tuesday morning, lows will bottom out in the mid 30s. Winds will be gusty along the front as well.

Some moisture will likely linger behind the front though, and thus, scattered showers will remain possible right into Tuesday morning. Call me crazy but… some of us could see a few flakes as the precipitation moves out Tuesday morning. Old Man Winter laughs…

Tue – AM Clouds, PM Sun – High 48˚ / Tue Night – Clear & COLD – Low 29˚

As you may have already realized, Tuesday will be much colder and certainly a far cry from the 80 degree temperatures of today. In fact, our highs will struggle to get out of the 40s. Believe me, I’m as upset as you are about this.

Unfortunately, yes.

For some better news though, high pressure will be working its way back into the area thus, clouds will clear throughout the day. By the afternoon, skies should become mostly sunny.

With high pressure in place along with a cold air mass, you can bet that temperatures will get quite chilly Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Lows will range from the upper 20s to the low 30s making any outdoor plants susceptible to the cold. With the light winds, a heavy frost is likely. Plan now to cover them up or bring potted plants indoors.

That’s all for today folks. Enjoy today before the rain and then cooler temperatures move in to start our week. You can always keep up to speed on the latest weather info by following @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWx on twitter. Thanks for reading… have a good one.
