Cloudy, rainy, cool and it’s Saturday… go back to bed!

Today 3/29 – Rain Likely, Cloudy – High 51˚ / Tonight – Mostly Clear – Low 30˚

9am 46˚ ~ 12pm 47˚ ~ 3pm 50˚ ~ 6pm 48˚ ~ 9pm 44˚

It’s certainly not nice start to the weekend out there. Scattered rain showers are moving in this morning and temperatures are a bit cool in the upper 40s to near 50 in the south. In fact, we’ll spend most of the day with temps in the 40s to near 50. All this less than ideal weather is thanks to a surface low pressure system passing just to our south in AL & TN.

Rain showers should be light to moderate throughout the morning before becoming more widely scattered around the noon hour. Other than an isolated shower or sprinkle, most of the rain should have ended from west to east by early afternoon. Skies will remain cloudy through the afternoon however, before clearing late this evening.

Here’s a look at how the HRRR model thinks the day will play out:

All told, rainfall totals shouldn’t be anything extreme but it will be soggy out there regardless. In general, 0.25″ – 0.75″ is expected for the region. Isolated locations could receive 1+”; this is especially true in the NW parts of the area where heavy rain fell overnight while the rest of us stayed dry.

Tonight, high pressure will begin working its way in which will allow skies to clear and temperatures to drop near or below freezing by morning. There could be some isolated areas of patchy fog/freezing fog in the morning… if you happen to drive into some, slower travel is advised.

Sun – Sunny & Pleasant – High 61˚ / Sun Night – Clear – Low 35˚

High pressure will take over for our Sunday which means sunny skies can be expected. Should be an all around pleasant day as temperatures warm into the low 60s by the afternoon. Thus it will be a great afternoon to get outside after being cooped up inside today.

Mon – Mostly Sunny – High 73˚ / Mon Night – Iso’d Showers/Storms – Low 49˚

If you think Sunday looks nice, get a load of Monday. That high pressure will slide off just to our east which will place us in the “return flow” area. Basically this means, winds rotating around the high pressure will bring in warm air from the south. These warm winds combined with continued sunny skies will allow temperatures to rise into the low 70s.

Want even better news? 70 degree weather looks as though it may become a theme next week (fingers crossed!).

Moisture will also return to the area thanks to the “return flow”. This will occur just ahead of a cold front which will move through Monday evening/night. As a result, we could see a few isolated showers/storms… doesn’t look like much at this time however.

That’s all for now. Be sure to get the latest on today’s rain and more by following @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWx on twitter. Thanks for reading all… stay dry and have a great Saturday!
