This Afternoon – Decreasing Clouds – High 46˚ / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 33˚

3pm 45˚ ~ 6pm 42˚ ~ 9pm 40˚ ~ 12am 37˚ ~ 3am 34˚ ~ 6am 33˚

Low cloud cover stuck around longer than expected this morning.  This has resulted in temperatures climbing slower than anticipated, thus I’ve lowered afternoon highs to the low – mid 40s.  I fully expect cloud cover to continue a decreasing trend through the remainder of today. Here’s a look at the latest surface model.  Clouds are breaking up nicely:

Outside of that, the forecast looks to be in ship-shape.  Partly cloudy skies will join chilly temps in the lower 30s tonight.

Tue – Partly Sunny, Breezy – High 65˚ / Tue Night – Increasing Clouds – Low 46˚

A warm front will lift north of the area and cause winds to shift out of the south, gusting between 10-20mph.  This is good news, as it will cause our temperature values to climb rather quickly.  By Tuesday afternoon, we’ll be looking at temp readings in the mid to upper 60s.  Reaching the 70s look like a long shot now, as the latest data has cooled us off a few degrees tomorrow.  Don’t get me wrong, it should still be a very nice day.

For Tuesday night, cloud cover will increase as an associated cold front closes in from our west.  A few showers may even track in after midnight.  It won’t be anything serious.

Wed – Scat’d Showers, BREEZY – High 62˚ / Wed Night – Clear – Low 35˚

Aforementioned boundary (cold front) will progress east across south central Kentucky through the middle of the work week, bringing scattered showers along with it.  Rainfall amounts will not be substantial, with a few of us potentially seeing .10-.25″.  The GFS precip model below, valid for 6am Wednesday, shows light precip exiting to our east:

Rain looks to be out of our hair as early as late morning Wednesday, with rays of sunshine a definite possibility by Wednesday afternoon.  Combine this with highs returning to the low 60s, and we’ll be looking at a very nice last half of the work week, as high pressure takes control across our proximity.

The passing of the boundary will do little to hurt our temperatures as we get into the latter part of the week, as our next weather maker in line evolves to our northwest.  We’ll keep nice, sunny & dry conditions around for both Thursday & Friday, as temperatures top out around 60˚ & 70˚.  GO OUTSIDE.  May I recommend hiking at Shanty Hollow?

Another cold front will dive east/southeast across the area on Friday night, bringing with it our next realistic opportunity at seeing showers and thunderstorms.  This looks to be our best opportunity at seeing rainfall this week.  I’ll continue to monitor the latest trends and provide more details as we get closer to the time of the actual event.

That’s all I’ve got for the afternoon update.  As always, stay in touch with @WarrenCountyWx & @WxOrNotBG for the latest in weather information.  Have a great start to the week.  Thanks for reading.
