Big Changes Tonight

Today 3/11 – Sunny – High 76˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Showers & Storms – Low 54˚

Good afternoon, hopefully everyone is enjoying today’s weather because it will be very short lived. High temperatures are still on track to reach the middle 70s this afternoon. Take a look at the latest satellite imagery showing today’s clear skies:

Southwesterly winds will continue this evening ahead of a surface low pressure that will make its way up the Ohio River tonight. As this low moves up the Ohio River, it will spread scattered showers and thunderstorms across our area. These showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage after midnight tonight. Our proximity to the center of low pressure will help to cut down on storm intensity. While no severe weather is expected, there could be a few strong storms with lightning, gusty winds around 40 mph, and small hail.

Wed – Scat’d Showers & Storms, Windy – High 55˚ / Wed Night – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low 23˚

By Wednesday morning, the showers and thunderstorms will be moving east out of our area, and the temperature will drop quickly as a cold front swings east across the state.. Our high temperature of 57 degrees will actually be tomorrow morning, with falling temperatures all day. Temperatures will drop below freezing during the evening, and the leftover moisture may be enough to produce scattered snow showers before precipitation ends Wednesday night. Little or no accumulation is expected.

Wait...what?

As if it could not get any worse, behind the cold front northwest winds will be very strong and the National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from 7AM to 7PM on Wednesday for sustained winds of 20-30  mph with gusts up to 40 mph. These strong winds will make temperatures feel even colder than they are as our low temperature will be in the lower to middle 20s by Wednesday night. Tomorrow will not be a pleasant day.

Thu – Sunny & Cold – High 42˚ / Thu Night – Clear – Low 31˚

Winds will calm by Thursday morning, as an area of high pressure moves into the area. Clear skies will be very deceiving as a very cold air mass will remain in place. High temperatures will only reach the lower 40s on Thursday afternoon.

That’s all I have for this afternoon, get out and enjoy the rest of the day because the weather will take a pretty extreme turn for the worst as the work week continues. As always, for more frequent updates you can follow @Wx_Or_NotBG and @WarrenCountyWX on Twitter.
