It’s going to be a “let your dog hang out the window of your car and look ridiculous while doing it” kind of day.

Today 3/10 – Sunny & Breezy – High 70˚ / Tonight – Clear – Low 43˚

6am 37˚ ~ 9am 50˚ ~ 12pm 64˚ ~ 3pm 70˚ ~ 6pm 62˚ ~ 9pm 54˚

Surface high pressure to our south will be in control of our area today, as a low pressure system passes well to our north.  This will create a tightening pressure gradient across south central Kentucky, which will create breezy southwesterly winds that will join plenty of sunshine today.

The combination of these features will send temperatures catapulting to around 70˚ this afternoon.

 Yeeehaww

The brisk winds could sustain between 15-20mph, with gusts potentially reaching 25mph.  Here’s a look at current surface conditions across the Continental US for a better idea of how things are shaping up:

Surface Model Valid 6am

Tues – Partly Sunny – High 72˚ / Tues Night – Showers & Storms Likely – Low 52˚

A low pressure system will evolve to our southwest, which will approach the region throughout the day.  Southerly winds will once again crank up as moisture increases across our proximity.  This will lead to an increase in cloud coverage as the day progresses.

As we get into Tuesday night, the low pressure system will push northeast across the Bluegrass State.  The forcing from this weather maker will combine with the available moisture to fire off likely chances at showers.

Judging from the latest soundings, feasible instability will be available to provide chances at thunderstorms as well.  Nothing severe is expected.  The NAM simulated radar model below displays a damp picture across the viewing area late Tuesday night:

NAM Simulated Radar Valid 12am Wed
NAM Simulated Radar Valid 12am Wed

Wed – Scat’d Showers & Storms – High 51˚ / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy – low 26˚

Lingering showers on the backside of the low will decrease in both intensity & coverage as we progress throughout our Hump Day.  Cooler air filtering in from the west/northwest will suppress temperatures to the lower 50s.  The rest of hte work week looks to remain cool, sunny & quiet, as high pressure reclaims control across our proximity.
