More Still To Come

We’ve dealt with plentiful amounts of sleet up to this point, with a gradual transition to all snow finally beginning to take shape across the region.  With precip remaining in the form of sleet longer than anticipated, total accumulations could be sliced down…to an extent.

Judging from reports so far, we’ve got anywhere from 2-6″ of sleet and snow on the ground across the viewing area, with the highest totals coming from the northwest tier of Butler County.  Majority of measurements coming in from the Bowling Green area have ranged from 2-4″.  These are rather significant values, taking into account the majority of it is sleet.  I’ve never experienced an event like this.

Focus will soon turn to Wave #2 that is tracking E across southern Missouri at the moment.  A look at the model above gives you a better idea of how this weather maker is evolving.

As the first wave exits to our east, scattered areas of snow & sleet will hang around.  Once this 2nd wave arrives closer to sunrise, it should be in the form of pure snow, and may lay an additional 1-2″ of accumulation.  I expect to see our precip taper off by mid – late morning, with light snow showers/flurries sticking around through this afternoon.

Brisk, northerly winds of 15-25mph will join highs in the mid 20s later today, making for blustery, frigid conditions.  If you must get out for the early commute, please do so with CAUTION.  Travel conditions are nothing short of horrendous, with several accidents and vehicles being reported stuck coming in from across the region.  Long story short…if you can avoid traveling, please do so.

That’s all for right now, folks.  As always, stay in touch with @WarrenCountyWx & @Wx_Or_Not for the latest in real-time weather information.  Stay safe & warm.  Thanks for reading.
