Unfriendly Weather Continues

Today 2/25 – Partly Cloudy – High 44˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Snow Showers – Low 18˚

6am 25˚ ~ 9am 35˚ ~ 12pm 41˚ ~ 3pm 44˚ ~ 6pm31˚ ~ 9pm 24˚

High pressure remains lodged to our northwest, which will continue to filter in light, northerly winds across our region today.  This means cool temperatures will stick around *WHA WHAAAA*.  An approaching disturbance looks to create absolutely beautiful partly  to mostly cloudy conditions to go along with those cool temps (we wouldn’t have it any other way, would we?).  Here’s a look at the current surface setup:

As we work into this evening, a weak disturbance aloft will track across south central Kentucky.  This forcing could result in scattered light snow showers impacting the region.  The NAM simulated radar model below paints light snow tracking southeast across the region at midnight tonight:

If we do see any accumulations (not likely), it shouldn’t be much more than a dusting at best.  Regardless, with temperatures plummeting into the lower teens tonight, you will need to use caution if traveling late tonight into Wednesday morning.  Slick spots will be inevitable.

Wed – Sunny & BRRR – High 28˚ / Wed Night – Clear – Low 16˚

High pressure will take back control of our weather pattern, supplementing sunny skies over our proximity.  A tightening pressure gradient on the east side of this high (where we’ll be located) will create stiff, northwesterly winds of 15-25mph that will impact us throughout the day.

This will suppress temp values into the mid – upper 20s, with early morning wind chills possibly in the single digits.

Need I say more?

Thu – Sunny – High 40˚ / Thu Night – Clear – Low 18˚

Similar story, different day.  High pressure will build in from our southwest, changing our flow at the surface from the same direction.  Although it won’t be a stellar improvement, temperatures will rebound to around the 40˚ threshold as a result.  We’re expected to stay calm, cold and quiet on Thursday night as well.

Throughout our Friday, a weakening low pressure system will transgress to our south, firing off scattered rain and snow showers.  Once again, this looks to do nothing more than be a nuisance to our society.  Major impacts are not expected.  Save your breath…I’ll take care of it:

“Screw you winter, go back north where you belong.”
