Monday Afternoon Update

This Afternoon – Mostly Sunny – High 45˚ / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 27˚

3pm 45˚ ~ 6pm 38˚ ~ 9pm 31˚ ~ 12am 29˚ ~ 3am 28˚ ~ 6am 27˚

Sunny & chilly will continue to be the weather story through the better part of today.  I think we’ll see a few high clouds roll in as we get closer to sunset.  Outside of that, not much to talk about.  High pressure nosing in from the northwest will keep light, northerly winds in place across south central Kentucky, which will help limit temps to the mid 40s.  Here’s a look at the current surface conditions:

Tonight…you guessed it, we’ll stay partly cloudy, quiet and cold.

Tues – Increasing Clouds – High 45˚ / Tues Night – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low 17˚

Cloud cover will roll in throughout our Tuesday, ahead of our next weather maker that will approach from the west.  Surface high pressure will remain in place, however, the upper level disturbance will produce chances at scattered rain and snow showers Tuesday night.  Everyone will not see precipitation, but those that do may experience minor accumulations (dusting – 1/2″ at best).  The following GFS model loops every 6 hours from 12pm Tues – 12pm Wed.  It depicts precipitation types through this time, and likes the idea of us seeing light snow Tuesday night:

I’m not very confident we’ll see much of anything from this, as dry lower levels look to inhibit anything worth mentioning.  With that being said, lows tumbling into the upper teens will allow for anything that falls to stick to the roads.  Travel with caution on the Wednesday morning commute.

Wed – Sunny & COLD – High 28˚ / Wed Night – Clear – Low 15˚

High pressure will reclaim control across our proximity as the disturbance pushes to our east.  Brisk, northwesterly winds filtering in behind the weather maker will make for unpleasant conditions.  Winds are forecast to gusts up to 15-25mph, suppressing wind chill values to the single digits early Wednesday morning.  Blustery, to say the least.

We look to remain cold and calm on Wednesday night, with sunshine returning on Thursday, as a weak, moisture-deprived cold front swings east across the area.  Our next chance at precipitation will arrive on Friday, as a low pressure tracks along to our south.  I won’t dive into any details, but we could be looking at another opportunity for light snow.

That’s all I’ve got for the afternoon update.  Stay connected to @WarrenCountyWx & @Wx_Or_Not for the latest weather information.  Have a great remainder of your Monday, and thanks for reading!
