Damp Start To The Work Week

Today 2/17 – PM Rain Showers Likely; Breezy – High 56˚ / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 34˚

6am 31˚ ~ 9am 40˚ ~ 12pm 50˚ ~ 3pm 56˚ ~ 6pm 48˚ ~ 9pm 41˚

A surface low is expected to track northeast across southern Illinois & Indiana today, which will drag an associated cold front west to east across our proximity this afternoon.  The model below helps illustrate this setup:

Surface Model Valid 6am
Surface Model Valid 6am

These features will coincide with available moisture to produce likely rain chances over south central Kentucky. Southerly winds ahead of the front will reach speeds of 15-25mph.

The good news is that these breezes will escort temperatures into the mid – upper 50s.  The following NAM simulated radar model is valid from 12pm – 6pm today.  It likes the idea of us getting wet during this time frame:

NAM Simulated Radar Valid 12pm - 6pm
NAM Simulated Radar Valid 12pm – 6pm

We may see a few light showers this morning, however, the heaviest precip will arrive this afternoon with the surface boundary.  As far as amounts are concerned, we could see anywhere from .25 – .50″.  Localized areas may see a bit more.  This system will quickly push to our east, resulting in decreasing clouds as we progress into tonight.

Tues – Partly Sunny & NICE – High 60˚ / Tues Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 43˚

High pressure will take over during the day, giving us partly to mostly sunny skies to enjoy.  A weak cold front will approach form our west, producing light southerly winds over the area.  Between rays of sunshine and southerly flow at the surface, we could see temps reach the 60s.

Cloud cover will increase on Tuesday night, as the weak cold front propagates east across our proximity.

Wed – Sunny & YES – High 58˚ / Wed Night – Scat’d Showers – Low 45˚

Another quiet day is in store, folks.  Rays of sunshine return to the sky, with temps once again rebounding close to 60˚.  On Wednesday night, a warm front will lift north across the region, creating the potential for scattered showers.

We’ll need to keep a close eye on Thursday, as parameters are in place for a potential line of strong storms to impact us during the afternoon and evening.  Models have not come into complete agreement on what we’ll be dealing with, but the ingredients are there for thunder, lighting and strong winds.  Something to watch.

That’s all I’ve got.  Stay in touch with @WarrenCountyWx & @Wx_Or_Not for the latest weather information.  Have a great start to the week, and don’t forget that umbrella.  Thanks for reading.
