Another Dusting?

Somebody make it stop already!

Today 2/9 – Iso’d Snow Showers – High 36˚ / Tonight – Iso’d Snow Showers – Low 25˚

9am 34˚ ~ 12pm 35˚ ~ 3pm 36˚ ~ 6pm 32˚ ~ 9pm 28˚

As expected, there were a few scattered areas of snow showers and flurries across south-central Kentucky this morning. Many of you have picked up a dusting or so while some haven’t really picked up any accumulation. Any areas that have picked up minor accumulations this morning could see a few slick spots on the roads, so it certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea to take it a little slow on the roads this morning.

There are also areas of fog/drizzle to be aware of this morning. That trend may continue through midday.

As for the rest of today, isolated snow showers/flurries will continue off and on through the day with otherwise cloudy skies. There appear to be three main times when snow showers/flurries are more likely than other times: 1) early this morning 2) around midday and 3) mid to late afternoon.

That being said, isolated snow showers/flurries are possible really at most any given time throughout the day… activity will remain very scattered. Thus some areas may not be seeing a whole lot of anything while someone not all that far away may see a decent snow shower.

The RAP model valid for 4pm indicates isolated to scattered snow showers across south-central Kentucky. The model may be over doing the coverage again… but you get the general idea.

A few additional locations may pick up a dusting throughout the day. However, temperatures are only barely below or right at freezing in most locations this morning and as temperatures quickly rise above the freezing mark, any isolated snow showers should have little if any impact. The best chance to see an additional dusting will be this afternoon/evening as temperatures begin to cool once again.

During the day today, temperatures may warm just enough so that some locations see the isolated snow showers mix with or change to rain showers at times, especially for areas closest to the Tennessee border.

Tonight we’ll see more of the same… that is cloudy skies with isolated snow showers/flurries in the area. Again, a dusting is possible in some areas. There could be a few slick spots develop as a result of any minor snow accumulations.

Mon – Iso’d Snow Showers – High 28˚ / Mon Night – Iso’d Snow Showers – Low 11˚

Another disturbance will roll through, primarily to our south on Monday. As this disturbance passes the chance for a few isolated snow showers/flurries will continue. Still looks like a dusting will be possible in some locations on Monday as well.

There remains at least some uncertainly with just how much moisture will be brought as far north as south-central Kentucky on Monday… thus still a few questions about accumulation talk. As Landon always says, no need to hijack any milk and bread trucks though.

Tom-Hanks-orly

Yes, Tom… there is yet another “dusting” possible.

Temperatures will be chilly Monday as north to northeast winds around an area of high pressure system will bring in colder air into our area. We’ll see highs in the 20s with lows in the low teens; in fact some areas may dip into the upper single digits.

Tues – Partly Cloudy – High 31˚ / Tues Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 15˚

Tuesday will be another cold day with temperatures struggling to reach the freezing mark. Overnight lows will drop back into the teens.

Say it ain’t so?? No snow? Yup, I feel confident enough that we will not see isolated snow showers Tuesday to finally leave them out of the forecast. It should be a mostly to partly cloudy day with, yes, maybe even some periods of sunshine. Wouldn’t that be nice.

That puts a wrap on today’s forecast. Keep up to date with any passing snow showers via the radar page or as always on twitter via @Wx_Or_Not and @WarrenCountyWx. Have a happy Sunday and thanks for reading.
