Saturday Afternoon Update

Did you say 50˚ tomorrow… Nice!

This Afternoon – Iso’d Showers, Partly Cloudy, Breezy – High: 42˚ / Tonight – Mostly Clear – Low: 16˚

4pm 41˚ ~ 6pm 38˚ ~ 9pm 29˚ ~ 12am 23˚ ~ 3am 17˚ ~ 6am 18˚

Snow, what snow? Temperatures have really warmed up outside with the intermittent sun and the gusty southwest winds. This has allowed this morning’s snow to quickly start melting away. Most locations picked up anywhere from a dusting to a half inch while a few locations (Butler, Edmonson, Barren County areas) picked up a general 1-2 inches according to the National Weather Service.

A cold front is currently moving across the Ohio Valley (as seen below) that will cause a wind shift and will bring in some cooler temperatures this evening into the overnight hours. There are a few isolated showers in the area as the front moves through this afternoon. The showers are widely scattered and if you happen to find yourself under one, any rainfall will be very light with totals remaining less than 0.05.

Winds have been gusty along and behind this front as well so expect winds from 10 -20 mph with gusts as high as 30+mph.

Surface conditions at ~2:30 pm on Saturday.

The cool shot of air behind the front will allow temperatures to drop into the mid teens tonight. This being the case, watch for any areas that may have slush or water on them from the melting snow as those areas could refreeze overnight causing a few slick spots.

Sunday – Mostly Sunny, Breezy – High: 52˚ / Sunday Night – Iso’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low: 18˚

The cooler shot of air will have no effect on tomorrow’s temperatures however as southwesterly winds will allow us to warm up nicely. The southwest winds along with mostly sunny skies will allow temperatures to warm up to around 50. This should make for a nice day though winds will be gusty with winds from 10 to as high as 25 mph.

The next clipper system will move across the Great Lakes region Sunday evening with an associated cold front draped into the Ohio Valley. The system will bring an increase in clouds during the afternoon/evening hours Sunday and overnight precipitation chances will increase.

There could be some isolated showers at first before changing to a few isolated snow showers. I’m not impressed with the system and current thinking is there will be little of anything but we’ll watch it. Here is the NAM precipitation model below for an idea of the system will behave.

Simulated precipitation from the NAM model valid for 3am Monday morning.

One thing is for sure and that is yet another cold blast which will move in behind the front. By Monday morning temperatures will again be dropping into the teens.

Monday – Mostly Cloudy – High: 23˚ / Monday Night – Partly Clear – Low:

Monday needs little other description than cold. An upper level trough will again be positioned over the eastern United States allowing for another round of cold air to come spilling southward.

Other than the cold, skies should be generally cloudy though there could be at least some peaks of sun during the day. By Monday night the chill will once again hold a firm grip on the area as lows dive into the low single digits to near 0.

That will do in for today. Follow @Wx_Or_Not and @WarrenCountyWx for more frequent updates. I’ll be back tomorrow morning with a fresh update, but until then have a great evening and thanks for reading.
