Light Snow Deja Vu

Snow Showers… Sun… Snow Showers… Sun….  This Weather Reminding Anyone Else of a Broken Record?

Today 1/18 – PM Scat’d Showers/Snow Showers, Breezy – High 39˚/ Tonight – Scat’d Snow Showers – Low 26˚

7am 17˚ ~ 9am 25˚ ~ 12pm 36˚ ~ 3pm 39˚ ~ 6pm 36˚ ~ 9pm 37˚

It’s a cold one out there to start our day but temperatures will quickly moderate under mostly sunny skies this morning. Clouds will be on the increase by late morning though and skies will become cloudy this afternoon. The cloudiness will be in response to yet another disturbance and low pressure system moving in our direction. It will also be breezy today ahead of the system with southwesterly winds from 12 to 22 mph. The disturbance will be another quick moving clipper system that again brings a chance of light snow this evening.

With more light snow our weather might remind you of a broken record or a cd on repeat…. certainly we’ve all got weather deja vu. By this afternoon (generally after 3 pm) moisture will increase and scattered rain showers will begin across the area. Temperatures look as though they may be just warm enough to start precipitation as predominately light rain, however some of us may see snow mix in from the very beginning. Precipitation should transition to light snow for all of us through the evening and by 10 pm, I believe most, if not all locations will have transitioned to light snow. Admittedly, even this morning it remains a little difficult to determine the precipitation type and transition times just because we are so extremely border lined. These question marks should become clearer by this afternoon so be sure to check back for the afternoon update.

The RAP model valid for 5 pm this afternoon indicates precipitation moving in from the northwest. Precipitation will be all snow along the Ohio River and points northward while will see a transition from light rain to light snow.

Regardless of these questions, precipitation over all will again remain light so this will be another no need to panic type of event. By now you should know the drill as this will be the 3rd time this week we’ve seen a similar occurrence. Accumulations will be as little as a dusting and could be as much as 1 inch. The scattered nature of the snow means total accumulations will vary throughout this range across the area. As we saw Friday morning, it does not take much snow to create some slick spots on the roads thus extra caution when traveling this evening through Sunday morning is advised. Scattered snow showers/flurries should come to and end during the morning hours Sunday.

Sunday – AM Flurries/Mostly Sunny – High 39˚/ Sunday Night – Clear – Low 30˚

The clouds and any lingering scattered snow showers/flurries should move out before 10 am leaving us with a mostly sunny to sunny afternoon. It will be a little cool, but otherwise it should be an overall nice day on Sunday. Skies will remain clear into Sunday night with southwesterly winds bringing in warmer air and thus temperatures will not be all that cold by Monday morning, relatively speaking.

Monday – Partly Sunny – High 45˚/ Monday Night – Iso’d Snow Showers – Low 24˚

Monday will start off fairly nice under mostly sunny skies but it will not take long for clouds to increase. A cold front is expected to move through our area during the day Monday and thus a few clouds will move in with the front. Clouds will further increase during the afternoon with yet another disturbance which is expected to slide into the Ohio River Valley during the overnight hours. Again this disturbance brings another chance for at least some isolated light snow showers Monday night. No need to mention accumulation talk this far out, but you might say we’ve been there and done that. Much colder air slides in behind the front that passes on Monday which will make for a cold midweek.

That puts a wrap on this morning’s forecast. I’ll be back this afternoon to give an update on this evening’s scattered precipitation. As always, get the latest updates by following @Wx_Or_Not on twitter. Thanks for reading.
