Sunday Update

Today 12/22 – Partly Cloudy, BREEZY – High 58˚ / Tonight – Iso’d Showers – Low 32˚

9am 56˚ ~ 12pm 58˚ ~ 3pm 53˚ ~ 6pm 47˚ ~ 9pm 42˚ ~ 12am 40˚

After a wild night of severe weather, conditions have started to settle around Bowling Green and the rest of south central Kentucky.

Interestingly enough, just before the cold front passed last night, we broke our record high for December 21st here in Bowling Green.  We reached 74˚, breaking the old record of 71˚ set back in 1967.   The brunt of damage has seemed to be downed trees and power lines, which led to numerous power outages.  Several reports of 60+mph winds with last night’s event.

Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies throughout the day, with a few isolated showers possible tonight.  With any luck, I think we may experience a few periods of sunshine today.  Temperature values will begin to drop this afternoon, as winds shift from out of the northwest behind the front.

Mon – Partly Sunny – High 38˚ / Mon Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 18˚

High pressure will start to build in from our west, keeping a cold, quiet pattern around for the start of the work week.  High temperatures will be limited to the upper 30s as northwesterly flow remains in place.  For Monday night, story will remain the same.  Really not much to discuss…cold and calm.

Tues – Sunny – High 25˚ / Tues Night – Clear – Low 19˚

Cooling trend will continue into the second day of the work week.  High pressure will slide eastward over our area, keeping our weather pattern very quiet.  This can be viewed on the model below, which is valid for noon Tuesday:

Surface Pressure & Precip Valid Noon Tuesday

Lay out the winter coats, toboggans and gloves, friends.  Temperatures will be bitterly cold,  limited to the mid – upper 20s Tuesday afternoon.

Weather story for the remainder of the work week will remain cool and rather subtle.  A warming trend will take hold on Christmas and Thursday, as temps rebound into the lower 40s under sunny skies.  Nothing really to discuss, folks.

That’s what I’m made of this morning.  Keep in mind that Weather Or Not BG serves as a catalyst to where the majority of information is provided through @Wx_Or_Not.  If you have questions, please get in contact with me there.  Have a great day.
