And So It Begins

friday

Friday…that’s all I have to say.

Today 12/20 – Scat’d Showers & Storms, BREEZY – High 65˚ / Tonight – Showers & Storms Likely – Low 55˚

6am 50˚ ~ 9am 55˚ ~ 12pm 61˚ ~ 3pm 65˚ ~ 6pm 61˚ ~ 9pm 60˚

A stalled front will find itself located just to our northwest, as southwesterly winds church moisture-rich air into the area.  This will combine with disturbances traveling along the front to create scattered showers & storms.  Southerly winds will gusts up to 15-30mph.  Hold on to your hats.

As we get into the overnight, expect precip chances to expand, as the flood gates begin to open up from the Gulf.  We’re talking enough to rival water world, folks.   Have a look at the NAM simulated radar, valid for 11pm tonight:

Sat – Showers & Storms Likely (Potentially Severe) – High 67˚ / Sat Night – Showers & Storms Likely – Low 61˚

Throughout our Saturday is where the focus for concern will reside.  Deep moisture will create our best chances at seeing the wet stuff, which could lead to potential flooding.  We’ll also have to deal with the possibility of severe thunderstorms.  Damaging winds and brief tornado spin ups will be possible with the parameters in place.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of south central Kentucky in a Slight Risk for seeing severe weather.  This means there is a 15% risk of you seeing severe weather within 25 miles Saturday morning through Sunday morning.  This can be viewed below:

Sun – Scat’d Showers & Storms – High 61˚ / Sun Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 30˚

Saturday night’s low will also play as Sunday’s high early in the morning.  The cold front will advance to our east, bringing with it breezy, bitter conditions.

Temperatures will plummet throughout the day, as lingering showers taper off to partly cloudy skies.  Total rainfall amounts from Friday – Sunday could top 2-5″, as displayed by the WPC rainfall image below:

That’s it for now.  I’ll return this afternoon with another look at what’s poppin’ in the weather world.  Have questions? Hit me up @BeechTreeWx.  Enjoy your Friday.
