Monday Afternoon Update

That’s one way to break the ice…

This Afternoon – Partly Cloudy – High 75 / Tonight – Partly Cloudy, Patchy Fog – Low 60

4pm 75 {} 7pm 68 {} 10pm 64 {} 1am 62

The cold front that was expected to pass to our east has pretty much stalled out to our west, which has kept a cloud deck in place across south central Kentucky.  This will result in a mix of sun and clouds to remain in place through this evening, with gradual clearing expected tonight into tomorrow, as an upper ridge and surface high pressure build over us.

Tues – Partly Sunny – High 83 / Tues Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 60

7am 71 {} 10am 73 {} 1pm 80 {} 4pm 83

Upper ridge will slowly take a handle on the region, giving us partly to mostly sunny skies to enjoy.  Southerly flow will help take temperatures into the lower 80s during the afternoon, with partly cloudy conditions remaining in place Tuesday night.  The 500mb vorticity model below, valid for 1pm Tuesday, illustrates the ridge in place:

Wed – Partly Sunny – High 82 / Wed Night – Isolated Storms – Low 62

7am 61 {} 10am 76 {} 1pm 80 {} 4pm 82

Ridge will remain in place for the vast majority of the day, keeping sunny skies in place through our Hump Day.  On Wednesday night, the ridge will break down, in response to an approaching 500mb trough from the west.  Increasing clouds will enter the picture for Wednesday night, along with isolated storms.

Thur – Partly Sunny, Scattered Storms – High 83 / Thur Night – Isolated Storms – Low 65

Available moisture will stream over us from the Gulf, coinciding with meager instability to provide scattered shower and storms chances to the forecast.  Parameters do not look very impressive, which raises confidence that no severe weather will develop.  Take a look at the 700mb relative humidity model, which is valid for 4pm Thursday afternoon.  As you can see, moisture will be available over our area:
